Follow her, where else you gonna go?

Rosa hustles to catch up. LaShonda says nothing further, and they quietly walk for a while. Rosa is the first to break the silence.

"Thanks for letting me follow." She says. "I had a rough night and it it's good to see a friendly face."

"I'm not a friendly face." LaShonda says, coldly. "But I'm faster than you, so if things go sideways I can outrun you and leave you to the men."

Rosa clams up. Again the war within her rises up, both her anger at LaShonda's casual insult but also excitement about pleasuring another group of men. She thinks back to the farm for a minute to remember why she's here.

They come upon the "thing" from the map shortly, but it's not really what either of them expected. There is a small rock mound, no larger than a van in a clearing. There is a plastic pipe inserted into the side of it which appears to be only a few feet in diameter.

LaShonda looks inside. "Shit, is that all? Just a fucking pipe? I've seen plenty of those back home." LaShonda looks around to make sure the coast is clear, and then sits down with her back against the rocks. "Fucking waste of time." She pulls off her backpack and opens it, pulling out her bottle of water and energy bar.

She looks down at them and then at Rosa. Rosa still looked pretty raggedy from the night before, and LaShonda's face finally reflected some concern.

"I'm sorry I played the bitch back there." LaShonda said, "I'm just not about to slip up and get myself fucked, alright? I need this money."

"Me too." Rosa said.

"Not like me. I need to get my family out of the shitty hood we live in."

"My family is gonna end up in a shitty hood if we lose the farm." Rosa countered.

LaShonda got quiet for a second. "I guess we all got problems." LaShonda broke the energy bar in half and offered it to Rosa.

She doesn't know about the ****! Should I take the offer? Should I tell her? If she eats all of it, then I might be able to get her backpack and map. If I take another dose though... But I'm so hungry...
