Find out when and where you are.

You quickly look at the maps on the wall and rifle through the papers on your desk, learning a few things.

First, you are in Lindenvale, a small village in the middle of Velen, often visited by people traveling to Novigrad or Oxenfurt. The village has a blacksmith and a few shops but it's situation is quite dire as some of it's poverty has deepened by war levies and the epidemic that spread after the Nilfgaardians' arrival.

Second, if you remember the date right from the game's lore, Ciri will pass through the village in a few days on her way from Crows Perch to Novigrad.

Third, you found a diary belonging to yourself so you know how to act around people. You've apparently lived in Lindenvale for four years and you're a hunter. You hunt birds, boars and other small animals for the villagers, gather rare plants and help take the animals apart so everything can be used. You also use your arrows to kill the occasional drowner as they are only a threat if you engage in melee, and sometimes you burn a nekker nest if they make one close to the farms again. Usually the farmers want you to leave the nekkers alone because burning their nest risks buring the crops as well and the nekkers would soon return anyway and they only attack when someone comes close to their nest.

The diary also tells you that while you had to almost literally beat the village's few unmarried men away at first, their advances stopped quickly when they saw you drag a arrow-riddled bear into town.

Closing your eyes you get a little dizzy. Make that very dizzy, as you head is filled with memories of this life conflicting with memories of your life in the real world while this one now seems just as real. It's late anyway so you decide to lie down to calm down and decide what to do now that you are in the world of The Witcher 3.
