Distracting Myself With Phone

Before I start thinking too much about my life, which I know for sure it’s going to happen, I just want to relax. So even though I have some stuff to think about, I try to distract myself with my phone for a little. I start checking social media to maybe meet some new people, but I don’t have high expectations for this -- at least I don’t think this is the best way to meet people, but I still have to give it a shot.

I hope on Facebook, search for people near me, and I see that the vast majority of people in this city are teens, and young adults. There are also a lot of couples and married people, but surprisingly it seems like every couple in this city has kids - Wow, does everyone here have partners and kids?? It sounds like the perfect city for romance, no old people, just a bunch of young couples loving each other… and making babies… I hope I’m part of that demographic soon.

I keep looking through social media, but I change sites, because Facebook is definitely not the best. I go to Instagram to check people’s photos, and there are a lot of sluts posing for likes, and even some promoting their OnlyFaps. It’s weird to see that there are so many girls like this, but I just ignore most of them, and try to find someone that looks interesting -- not these basic thots, posting for views.

I manage to find a familiar looking profile. I have to look at the profile for a couple of seconds before realizing that the person in the photo is an old friend from middle school and highschool. I have basically created a new account for everything, because I’m trying to start a new life, and leave everyone behind, but I instantly recognize this guy. He is a really close friend actually, one of my best friends, but he had to move out of the city in sophomore year -- I think for some family reasons or something like that.

I check his profile, and read his name to make sure he is my old friend, and he indeed is. I can’t really look at his posts on Instagram, because he has privated it, but I know where I can find him. I search his name on Facebook, and after a few seconds of scrolling, I see him, and confirm that he is indeed that old friend from school - I guess Facebook is finally useful for something, finding all the information about strangers on the internet.

Wow, it really is him… Man, this is awesome, it seems like he is going to the same college as me… I can’t wait to see him in a week! - I exclaim in my head, pleasantly surprised to see an old friend living in this same city, and even studying at the same place as me. I keep thinking about how cool it would be to go to class with him, but I scroll down his page a little more, and I find a bit more information about him.

It seems like he had to move out because his mom had a business offer here, and they decided to change cities. It appears that they also wanted to start a new life, and they seem really happy to have made that big decision - So pretty much what we did… And I see why they would do that, I mean, this place looks like a lot of fun… I’m sure they don’t regret making that decision… hopefully I don’t…

Should I contact him? It would be cool to hang out again, I don’t know… - I ask myself, not really sure if he would still remember me. At this point, I would accept anyone as my friend, so I try to contact Matthew, but then I remember something. I open my contacts, search for his name, and I notice all the old contacts I have. Most of my contacts are all my friends from last year, and I know Matthew is one of them -- but it will take me a while to find him.

I didn’t realize I was so popular back in highschool, but it’s nice to see I can scroll through hundreds of contacts, and all of them were friends, or acquaintances - Oh good times were those… I could hang out with everyone at any time back then, I just never ran out of friends... I hope I’m able to do the same in this city, it will be hard though. I finally reach contacts with my friend’s initial, and Matthew’s is one of the first ones that appears, but I only save it -- I’m going to call him later, I think it will be better.

I don’t think I will be contacting him now, mainly because it’s pretty late, and also because I want to see more old contacts. So as I’m curious about my old friends, I keep scrolling through my contacts, getting a bit emotional as well. I miss these friends quite a lot, but I don’t want to think about it right now, so I keep scrolling. It is only when I reach all the way down to “U” that I notice a name that shocks me.

Just seeing this name literally gives me chills, and I’m even afraid of looking at it. There is only one name with V, so it is highlighted in my mind instantly. And while I take a few seconds just to look at my phone, without doing anything, I finally read it in my mind, and it’s even worse than I thought. Hmm, Valerie... Why does it have a <3 next to the name?? - I ask myself in confusion, but in reality, I know full well exactly why, I’m just scared of remembering the answer.

I stare at the screen for a few more seconds in shock. The whole conversation I had with my mother at the mall plays in my head rapidly. I quickly remember everything about this person, and it’s not a nice thing to do, it hurts me. I hate having to go through these memories again, but I can’t help it. I turn off my phone, and lie down on my bed, hoping I can forget about it, but there’s just no way of ignoring this. I feel terrible just to have seen her name, but now that I did, I know I can’t do anything but think about my ex-girlfriend…
