Who and where?

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Morals and Sensibility

"Hey."

"Hey, wake up."

A voice called out to him. It was a soft, melancholic voice that he remembered, but couldn't quite pinpoint who it was.

He opened his eyes, his hands immediately coming up to shield himself from the blinding sunlight. "Wha?" he said, confused as to who he was and where they were.

"Good to see you were already up." The owner of the voice smiled, hands propped up on his sides. He was a tall boy, taller than him at least. Scraggly, stringy white hair adorned his head, with green eyes to compliment his pale skin.

The boy looked sickly, as if he was about to fall down from the heavy wind. "Who are you?" he asked, his eyes adjusting to the bright light.

"My name is Nagito Komaeda," he said, smiling. The smile would've looked completely harmless on someone else, but on him, it looked unsettling almost. It felt creepy, as if Nagito could see right through him.

Not fazed by his silence, Nagito continued smiling. "You're Hajime Hinata, right?"

That was his name, right? It really felt like he couldn't remember a thing right now. Maybe it was the location, or perhaps it was the disconcerting feel of the place. He truly didn't know what this feeling was, and that scared him.

"Where am I?" He asked, raising his eyebrows in confusion. "What is this place?"

Nagito looked off in a different direction, and now that his eyes had fully adjusted to the brightness of this place, did he truly knew where indeed he was.

Hajime stared at the sand in his hands, the small grains slipping through the nooks of his palms. The cries of circling seagulls alerted him of the fact that he was indeed somewhere unnatural to say the least.

He could see the sprawling blue ocean in front of him, gleaming and sparkling in the sunlight. "We're on a beach?" he muttered to himself, but it seemed as if Nagito could hear him from a mile away.

"Dunno," Nagito said, helping him up. Hajime staggered onto his feet, the feeling of thousands of grains of sand beneath his feet. "But it seems that they're doing something over there." Nagito pointed to his right, and Hajime craned his neck to look at what he was pointing towards.

"Woah," he exclaimed.

It was a gigantic beach, one that looked simply unreal. Rather weirdly, an also gigantic palm tree was planted in the middle of the beach.

That wasn't the weirdest thing about the beach however, actually that part was quite tame.

It was the collection of people surrounding the palm tree that were the oddest thing about it.

As they approached the palm tree, Hajime could hear the sounds of people talking.

"You were the last one to wake up," said Nagito, walking besides him. "We were waiting for you."

"Sorry," Hajime said, bashfully. "So, what is this place exactly?"

Nagito shook his head. "We don't know, at least, not everything."

"I don't remember coming here," Hajime said. "I was....walking towards a door, and then....darkness."

Nagito placed a hand on his chin. "Hmm, that story checks out. I too experienced the same thing before waking up."

"Where are we?" He asked himself. "Why are we on the beach?"

Nagito flashed him a kind smile. "Let's go to them." He pointed to the group of students. "They probably have figured all of this already."

"I hope," he said with a nervous grin.
