Chapter 17 by hambo hambo

What's next?

Belinda comes around

Belinda blinked, and came to sitting on her throne. Well, she thought it was her throne anyway, everything looked so blurry she couldn't tell.

I must have dosed off. Those meetings are awfully boring after all.

She felt around for her glasses, but just couldn't find the blasted things!

"Servant! Servant," Belinda yelled.

This wasn't the first time she had set them down somewhere and couldn't find them.

The worst was when that dark elf ambassador visited and I some how managed to lose them in the east library, even though I never go there. It took me and Greta half the day to find them. I'm just glad that dark elf lady wasn't offended when I left her and hubby alone in our private quarters for a few hours to go take care of that.

Belinda was drawn out of memories by the approach of a blurry, fleshy blob.

"It's about time you got here! You've kept me waiting for too long! Just look at the time," Belinda haughtily complained.

She pointed in the general direction of where a beautiful, centuries-old grandfather clock had once stood along the edge of the room. Somebody had hauled it away and put a flimsy wooden façade with some painted-on clock hands in its place. Not that Belinda could tell. She only knew how to read digital clocks.

"Um... my... apologies, your majesty. I was... busy... um... uh... cleaning. Yeah! Cleaning," said a feminine voice.

Belinda didn't recognize it, but then again there were so many servants in the castle, and she couldn't remember all their names or voices. It had gotten especially bad since hubby left on his trip.

He must have doubled the number of servants to make sure I was taken care of while he was gone.

"Never mind that. I need you to help me find my glasses. Without them I can barely see anything," Belinda said irritably. She'd always been embarrassed about her poor eyesight, it just seemed so unbecoming of an elegant, royal lady like herself.

"Is that so..." replied the voice, with a hint of amusement(?) slipping through, it was so hard for Belinda to tell, especially when she couldn't see the other person's face

"Yes!" Belinda snapped. "And if you don't start treating me right, I'll see that you never clean anything in this castle again!"

There was a long pause, and then the voice answered.

"Forgive me, your majesty. Let's see what we can find," said the voice.
