Avengers Initiative

Maria Hill, acting director of SHIELD, pushed back some of her dark hair. It had grown down to her shoulders, longer than usual, but she kind of liked it, actually.

She was currently reviewing files Nick Fury had left in his vault prior to his (alleged) ****. Personally, Maria thought it was bullshit, but she supposed it was possible he was dead.

But the files in question pertained to a new wave of Avengers recruits. A field team to help out the established Avengers. Fury had lots of options in the files. Maria wasn’t particularly sure of any of them. Only one caught her attention. What was odd, she didn’t remember seeing it yesterday. But the file was about a Dean Wayne. He was a mutant with expert knowledge of hand to hand combat as well as a power to release a strange chemical into the air, a chemical that could, over time, enslave minds.

Interesting power. Not the usual heavy-hitter, but maybe that’s what the Avengers needed. A support along the lines of Romanoff to balance out the heavy hitters like Rogers and Banner.

The more she read the file, the more she liked it. No family, only known affiliation is Xavier Academy. Not bad origins. Maria Hill decided to reach out to him, gauge his potential.
