Chapter 3 by Acorn142 Acorn142

What is her idea?

An introduction to a wizard

Courtney is exuberant with her idea. “What you need is the help of a wizard to get you out of here so you can live a little!”

“A wizard? Courtney, are you mad? The royal family has a very delicate alliance with the wizards that essentially means we leave each other alone. Why, I don’t even know if I’ve had a proper conversation with a wizard; they keep pretty much to themselves.”

Courtney beams. “I know, but I know one who would be perfect to help us! His name is Rezkin.”

“How on earth do you know a wizard, and why should he help us?”

“I met him a few weeks ago on Market Day. I was trying to find some silk that would match your new scarf, and while I was looking, a horse got spooked and started running toward me. I tried to get out of the way, but I twisted my ankle and fell. I was sure I was going to get trampled, but at the last minute a man threw himself on top of me and sheltered me with his body.”

“And this was this Rezkin person?”

“It was. I learned later that the horse actually did go over top of us, but Rezkin placed some sort of protective spell over us, preventing any harm.”

“How exciting!” exclaims Adella. “Why didn’t you say anything about it at the time?”

Courtney blushes. “I know how uncomfortable the topic of wizards is around here, and I didn’t want to upset anyone. Besides, at the time, I thought it was the only time I would see him.”

“At the time?” Adella asks. “It sounds as if there is more to the story.”

Courtney’s cheeks grow redder. “Well, as it turns out, I ran into him a few days later when I was on an errand. He spotted me first and inquired about my ankle. We had a pleasant conversation; you know, he’s not like I pictured a wizard at all; he’s rather nice, in fact.”

“So nice that you’ve been seeing him regularly?”

Courtney nods, sheepishly. “It’s all quite innocent. We just meet for tea, and he tells me the most amazing stories of dragons, enchanted beings, and things like that.”

“All quite innocent?” Adella asks, skeptically. “My dear friend, how long have we known each other? And in that time, when is the last time your relationship with a man was ‘quite innocent’?”

Courtney gives a slight smile. “I admit I find him very handsome and charming, but you know the laws about mortals and magical beings. Besides, he seems more interested in learning about me and my interests; he’s not like a typical man at all. Aside from feeling how his body responded when he was laying on top of me while protecting me from the horse, I wouldn’t even be sure wizards have the same parts as human men.”

Adella laughs. “And trust you to make that observation! I declare, Courtney, if you were in danger of being eaten by a troll, you’d still have the presence of mind to check out the size of his manhood!”

“Not only that, but I’d make sure it happened right at sunrise. Once the creature turned to stone, I’d grab a hammer and chisel and bring us back the longest, hardest dildo ever seen in all of Mirantia!”

Adella gasps and covers her mouth as both ladies dissolve into laughter.

When they collect themselves, Adella asks, “So what is your plan with this wizard fellow? Why should I meet him?”

“Because he is a wizard! He knows how to use magic, and magic is what you need right now. Whether it is to whisk you out of here unobserved for an adventure, or to change things so you are not taken for granted anymore.... I don’t know what he can do, but it feels like destiny that I should meet him at this time.”

“Be careful, my friend,” warns Adella. “Your talk of changing things could be perceived by some as treasonous talk from the likes of the Resistence or Enlightenment. These are perilous times with regard to our relations with magical beings.”

“Forgive me, M’lady, but you know I mean nothing that drastic. I care only for your happiness. Please, just allow me to introduce you to Rezkin, and you can make up your own mind.”

Adella considers this. Technically, it is not forbidden for her to simply meet and talk to a wizard. In fact, one could argue it is a helpful diplomatic tactic to improve relations with the elusive race. “Very well, I shall meet him.”

Courtney is delighted. “I shall make arrangements at once. Where would you like the meeting to take place?”

What does she say?
