Addendum: Test results for Personality Overwrite technology (as yet unbranded)

Introduction

Using contemporary memory-erasure models as a basis, we have developed a further device that then overlays new neurotic pathing over synapses that had previously only been ‘switched off’. In layman's terms the structure of the patient’s brain remains entirely unchanged, rather mental processes are simply diverted into an external data store, allowing rapid switching between various personality ‘dubs’.

Test Groups

Preliminary test groups 1 through 5 displayed little evidence of altered personality traits, just the expected memory erasure. However some individuals actually showed greater loss of cognitive function to the point of near vegetative state.

Test group 6 was our first major step forward, not with take up of new personality traits, but with loss of specific traits above and beyond those associated with general memory erasure. Several individuals showed signs of entering a ‘blank’ state, wherein they could respond to and answer factual questions, but showed very little emotional reaction at all.

Test groups 7 through 12 were formed of promising individuals from each of the previous groups, and allowed us to develop a method of generating the aforementioned ‘blank’ state in any subject at will.

Test group 13 was our first major attempt at overlaying a new personality matrix on top of subjects in the ‘blank’ state. Unfortunately there appeared to be some sort of ‘feedback loop’ created between the technology and their biological cortices. This resulted in **** expression of whichever personality traits we were trying to superimpose. Bouts of sudden, violent sexual desire, despair or even physical aggression were commonplace. Some thought was given to possible uses for such behaviour, but ultimately the subjects were deemed too hard to control.

Test groups 14 through 25 were the first to show signs of true success. After being put into a ‘blank’ state it became possible for us to overlay personality traits and memory dumps from one individual to another, with little risk of the **** behaviours we had seen before. While there were still some signs of rejection between the mental engram and physical form, with each iteration we became more confident in fine tuning what was replaced or retained. Disentangling and recombining motor reflex controls from other subconscious traits proved particularly challenging, but by group 21 subjects could reliably walk across a room in constrained footwear, even if their host body had never learned such and yet also pick up a glass with arms much longer than the personality dub was used to.

Conclusions/Profitability assessments

Frankly, the success of this venture has outstripped even the least conservative of our predictions. When [Redacted] first came to me with the proposals for this research, I was inclined to refuse even despite the extremely generous funding package offered. Yet, I will freely admit that the initial hypotheses and additional support from central [Redacted] indeed proved wholly invaluable.

That said, an identified weakness of this process is in long-term memory retention among subjects, with many describing ‘fogginess’ as to events that have occurred over any timeframe beyond a few hours, even while remaining in a singular personality dub. However the lack of long term memory also seems to help prevent rejection of the overlaid personality and does not seem to present any major problem to the business model or product, and rather could be marketed as an advantage. Perhaps as ‘a product that never gets tired or bored and will never reveal your secrets’ or some such. I am sure spin doctors in the relevant department could come up with something catchier along those lines.

I am now honoured to have been part of this major breakthrough in the field of sociological sciences and look forward to all the further avenues of research that it will open up before us. We will continue perfecting the process, but am fully confident that it is at a stage that can be put forward for limited, profitable consumption. Moving on from that, I believe withs additional funding and real-world testing I believe mass production could begin within 2 years at the latest.
