* Real Time Stratagy *

Ah yes, the classics. Though this sub-genre, (arguably a genre in its own right,) has lost popularity in recent years it remains a fundamental part of the gaming world. Titles such as "Dawn Of War II", "Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty," and many others still hold their share of the market.

However, the real heyday of this genre was the mid 2000s, when titles like "Starcraft", "Empires", "Dawn of War", and "Warcraft 3", exploded onto the scene and built the foundation of game dynasties that have endured for a decade.

Even so, the genres roots are deeper than that. The original "Warcraft" was released in the mid 90s, and there are still gaming clubs that swear by it.

Even before that however there were some early forays into the concept, mostly based around the American Civil War, though in the earliest days of videogames they simply were not sophisticated enough to handle such things as the "real time" aspect of the genre.
