The Unreality Pandemic

The first signs of the Unreality pandemic were whispers on various sites on the internet. At first people claimed it was just creepy internet stories.

When the pictures and videos arrived, they claimed it was special effects made with state of the art A.I algorithms.

When hour-long live stream videos where victims answered questions arrived, critics went silent. Some governments began saying it was nothing to worry about. Some governments were quiet, too quiet for them to not be doing something about it. And other governments exposed to the events went into full lock-down with public warnings about what to do.

Some places were barely touched by these effects, others have not been heard from in days. Most strains had various methods to alleviate the symptoms. One advice seemed to be, in computer terms, to "create a backup." Take pictures, some genetic material like a strand of hair and a quick summary of yourself was the recommendation. Maybe governments had plans to synthesize the disease to redo victims, or maybe there was some ritual you could do to provoke the disease to undo the damage. Yeah, it was crazy, but it was pretty much what was already happening.

But many governmental organizations recommended everyone to not forget more conventional supplies. As you could never really know what sort of strain you would be working with. Isolation was the best protection. However, modern society is not made for prolonged periods of isolation...
