The Superheroes' Intern

Molly McKenna isn't special. Sure, everyone is special in their own way, and sure she has some cool talents and traits, but in this world, that doesn't cut it. In this world, being special means having superpowers. There were only a handful of heroes at the start, big names like Ultrawoman, Powerman, The Light, and a few others, but after a while, more and more started showing up. Now, a few dozen superheroes work together to do anything from keeping the streets clean to fighting super villains to warding off alien invasions. They unite under the banner of Hero HQ, an imposing building in New York City that currently casts a shadow over our modest protagonist.

Looking up at the sturdy concrete tower, Molly shivers with anticipation. She had walked by this very same block countless times as she grew up, and had even been inside the lower floors on a couple of tours. Since she was a little girl, she had dreamed about working in this building as a hero. She had thought up names, icons, outfits, and powers for her alter ego, but it was not to be. No matter what she did, was exposed to, or bitten by, she never developed powers. Statistically, the odds weren't in her favour. The overwhelming majority of people on earth don't have powers. Be that as it may, she lost hope when she graduated high school, then collage.

Shaking the sadder thoughts from her head, causing her short dark hair to bounce around her ears, she grips her bag and steps towards the building. All of that changes today. Molly knows that she won't get powers, but for a regular human, this was the next best thing. In her bag was a job offer from Hero HQ. They needed a new intern to do menial tasks like make copies, fetch things, and generally be bossed around. The pay wasn't great, but Molly didn't care. This would be her chance to get up close and personal with her idols! Heroes like Rubberman and Ghost Boy! Like The Conjuress and Beast Babe! Filled with determination, Molly walks up to the glass doors of HQ, pulls them open, and steps inside.
