NukeOut

Post-apocalyptic world.

Chapter 1 by Trom1806 Trom1806

In the 21st century, unexpected surprises awaited the inhabitants of the planet Earth. These surprises were much larger and more unpleasant than anything that humanity had previously experienced throughout its history.

A series of regional economic crises that occurred during the 2030s grew into a large-scale global economic crisis that affected the vast majority of existing states. By 2040, economists began to call this global crisis the term “Second Global Economic Depression.” In each region of the world, events occurred that affected the life of every ordinary person: a sharp drop in the level of real incomes, the collapse of the banking system, and exponential growth in unemployment. The global economic crisis lasted year after year. All the optimistic forecasts that market mechanisms would soon automatically correct the situation did not come true.

Negative changes in the economy entailed natural consequences in other spheres of public life: in politics, science, and culture.

The political authorities and business communities of most countries in the world began to try to overcome their own economic problems by appropriating the resources of neighboring states. Local military conflicts, which in previous decades smoldered like coals, began to increase their intensity and expand their area. Science was put at the service of the aggressive interests of big business and the expansionist intentions of politicians. Thanks to the work of biased media, humanity has forgotten about the need for space exploration, the importance of maintaining ecological balance, and the humanistic significance of scientific knowledge. Instead, scientific progress was subordinated to the ideas of maximizing profit at any cost and the ideas of creating ever more powerful weapons systems.

As a result, dozens of expanding local military conflicts escalated into a global military conflict that affected everyone on the planet. This happened in 2050. What happened could be called the beginning of the Third World War. The strongest states on the planet, each of which sought to obtain the maximum amount of resources for themselves, entered into open confrontation and began to conduct military operations on land, at sea and in the air. The media in each of the warring states supported their own population with the illusion of the inevitability of an imminent victory in a global military conflict. The media incited in ordinary residents of their country a feeling of xenophobia towards other nations, a feeling of religious fanaticism, a feeling of their own national exclusivity, messianism and their own national superiority over all other peoples.

The global military conflict was gaining momentum. During 2051, the strongest of the warring states began to involve their allies in hostilities. Political authorities in the warring countries began to carry out mass mobilization of the population into the armed forces. The growing intensity of the conflict led to the use of powerful types of weapons. One of these types of weapons was nuclear weapons. Each of the warring countries had some kind of missile defense and air defense systems. Therefore, the military command of each side of the conflict had the expectation that the damage from a nuclear bombing to its own territory would be minimal.

However, these optimistic calculations were not destined to come true. By 2052, the massive use of nuclear weapons has resulted in vast areas of planet Earth becoming an uninhabitable radioactive wasteland.

In addition to nuclear weapons, other types of weapons of mass destruction were also used. For example: chemical weapons, bacteriological weapons.

In 2053, the population of planet Earth has declined catastrophically. The so-called “Nuclear Winter” has arrived. The few survivors took refuge in underground bunkers or in the few hard-to-reach shelters on the surface.

For hundreds of years, human civilization ceased to exist on the surface of planet Earth.

Over five centuries, the climate and appearance of the planet have changed significantly. Many territories were flooded by the ocean, many rivers dried up and were swallowed up by deserts. Due to the detonation of nuclear missile warheads that were stored in underground storage facilities, a shift in tectonic plates occurred. New species of living beings have appeared. The reason for this was the acceleration of mutation processes due to the consequences of the use of bacteriological weapons and chemical weapons, as well as due to radiation.

So now it's 2553. On the surface of planet Earth there are settlements of descendants of people who in one way or another survived the nuclear apocalypse.

You are one of the people who live in this dangerous post-apocalyptic world. You live in a territory that once upon a time was part of a state called the “United States of America”. However, these outdated ancient terms are of little significance for your modern world. The world you are to exist in looks completely different...

You have to fight for your own survival.

What traits do you have? Who are you?
