Infection Apocalypse

Will you succumb?

Chapter 1 by Enzzzym Enzzzym

[Monday] [5:49 AM]

Alice woke up early that morning, excited and anxious about her first day of college. She decided to take a relaxing bath to ease her nerves. Afterward, she picked out her favorite outfit and styled her hair perfectly. Stepping back to examine her reflection, she felt confident and prepared for the day ahead.

[Monday] [6:45 AM]

Downstairs, the smell of breakfast greeted Alice as she entered the kitchen. Her mother, wearing an apron, was cooking pancakes while her father read the newspaper at the table. Her siblings, Jack and Lily, sat eating cereal, engrossed in their phones.

Her mother looked up from the stove and smiled warmly. "Good morning, honey! Ready for your big day?"

Alice poured herself a cup of coffee and sat down next to Jack. "Yeah, mom. I think so."

Jack glanced over at her, giving her shoulder a supportive pat. "Don't worry, sis. You'll do great. Just remember to raise your hand often and introduce yourself to your classmates."

Lily chimed in, looking up from her phone. "Yeah, and try to sit near the front so you won't fall asleep."

Alice stuck her tongue out at Lily, earning a grin in return.

Their peaceful meal was interrupted by a news report announcing multiple incidents of seemingly random occurring throughout the city. People attacked strangers without warning, leaving authorities puzzled and concerned citizens frightened.

Frowning, Alice's father turned off the television. "That's concerning. Hopefully, it stays contained to certain areas."

Alice's mother placed a hand on her husband's shoulder, concern written all over her face. "Let's just hope it gets sorted out quickly. I don't want any of you walking around campus worried about your safety."

Determined not to let the unsettling news affect her, Alice finished her breakfast and bid farewell to her family. As she drove to college, she focused on the road and reminded herself why she chose to attend this particular institution: its excellent academic programs, diverse community, and opportunities for growth.
