It'd been a while since you'd felt this deflated, like the wind had missed your sails entirely and left you stranded at sea; helplessly seeking for any salvation to come your way, along with a lifeline to help bail you out - and I suppose if you wish for something hard enough, you may still be disappointed even when said wish comes true.

Just the other day you had been called into the Deans office where the two of you had discussed your frankly Kamikaze grades; you didn't know what had come over you all of a sudden but you had been marked severely under what you would deem as a satisfactory grade, even for you. You know you hadn't been slacking, nor did you feel like you'd answered incorrectly on many of the tests questions; and yet every lecturer had assured you of your many mistakes. It made you feel crazy, like all the world was out to get you and yet you had no one in your corner to believe in you; not even your girlfriend Stacy who had suggested seeing a general practitioner to see if there wasn't something going wrong cognitively.

Stacy your rock, your anchor, the one who had kept you grounded throughout all of this; she was the only one keeping you sane through these trying times. She was your first real girlfriend since moving out, sure you had schoolyard crushes but to you; Stacy was the first true love of your life. You two had been dating for 2 years since the start of your first semester at Softwood High; a Media university with middling prestige. You felt as if you two were made for one another and never missed an opportunity to hang out with her. Stacy was a very caring girlfriend and gave you a glimpse at what being loved felt like; and even after two years you both were still in the honeymoon phase of your relationship astonishingly enough.

Which made it all the more painful to make such a selfish ask of her out of the blue like you were just about to do; sitting her down at the tableside you began to relay what the Dean had told you to her, that as an experimental program you and Stacy would receive higher grade point averages so long as you simply moved to their more modern Hardwood High campus, that was basically all you needed to do. You had asked for further details as to what experiments they were running, but the Dean had denied comment. You were handed documents for you both to sign, and hurried out of the office to make room for the next appointment.

Around the dining table the both of you had discussed your options, she had seemed understandably hesitant at first as it would mean leaving her friends of two years behind and starting all over again; but much to your shame you somehow knew that she capitulated to your wishes all for your own sake. You both loved her and hated yourself for that, and so with the duel signing of these documents - plans were made to uproot your life and start again anew in Hardwood High.

Waving farewell to your friends, you drove yourself along with your girlfriend in a rickety moving van along with all of your worldly possessions towards hopefully greener pastures. A gentle hand resting on yours as you drove told you that everything would be alright; yet you couldn't shake the sinking feeling that dwelled from within.
