From Beyond

There it was- Earth. As the creature's stealth ship accelerated towards the atmosphere, it couldn't help but admire its natural beauty. It species had visited a great many planets, seen a great many species, but the vast blue oceans and puffy white clouds were nothing if not notable.

It would soon be theirs.

Its interstellar empire had conquered all. The fearsome Potidean Syndicate, the formidable Laernian Khanate, even the Republic of Om. They had all fallen because of one thing: trust. They trusted themselves, trusted their comrades, and they trusted appearances. They expected massive fleets of starships or swarming armies. They didn't expect a knife in the back from someone they thought was their friend. That was where the creature came in.

As an infiltrator, its species' specialty- genetically enhanced for such a purpose- was to gather intelligence and sabotage infrastructure to prepare for a greater invasion. It did so by body-snatching: seizing control of the body, assuming its identity, and carrying on as though nothing had ever happened. The right person in the right place can do anything, so when you can become anyone, nothing is impossible.

Even, as it would seem, conquering a planet all by oneself. The creature--nameless as it was, for names betray true identities-- had been sent to Earth alone, the reason being that this human planet had such poor development that a large-scale infiltration and conquest was totally unnecessary. It was not totally alone, however. It was capable of reproduction if need be by engaging in sexual relations with members of its host species. Perhaps it would not be necessary.

As the ship entered the stratosphere and began to glow with fiery heat, the creature prepared itself to do its duty: to conquer Earth, for the glory of the Empire.
