Chapter 1 by Colleem Colleem

Mount Everest, Earth

The highest mountain in the World lay quietly within the ranges of the Himalayas. The clouds themselves bowed to its size and hid the top of the mountain. Only a few had ever managed to conquer this mountain. Hundreds had died trying to reach this peak. But the mountain rarely revealed its secrets. Again, and again the bodies of expeditions that had failed on the way were found. Although the mountain was the most famous mountain on the planet, nobody knew its true secret. Born in a time when this mountain had been a hill at best and hidden by time, an ancient galactic power laid there and slept the sleep of eternity. For millions of years the mountain had slowly piled up around the sleeping place and had kept its secret under millions of tons of rock from the eyes of the world and the universe.

But the time of rest was now over. While at the other end of the world the planet's most powerful defenders were stopping an invader from another world without either party noticing, the sleeping creature's last child was killed.

An angry, throaty growl was heard as Eternicus moved for the first time in eons. The mighty dragon slowly opened his eyes and looked around. Even the total darkness of his sleeping place was no obstacle to him. His kind was the manifestation of the hunt and he was the first. He was the Godfather of all dragons. He was the physical manifestation of the emotions of the universe. Long before the universe had produced the first life, a consciousness had been there. It was this consciousness that formed Eternicus.

Finally, he had divided his power and created 7 dragons, which represented a part of his own power. These dragons symbolized a certain aspect of the universe. After his children had developed their power, it was time for him to rest. Knowing that his 7 children would keep the will of the universe in balance, he could rest. Since then, an eternity had passed, and he shook his head in a daze. It took him a while to shake off the sluggishness of sleep from his body. Slowly and thoughtfully he tensed the muscles in his legs and straightened up, only to bang his head against the ceiling. Flames hissed from his nostrils as he turned his head carefully and looked up.

"A ceiling?" it went through his head. Astonished, he looked around only to realize that he was in cave. As far as he remembered, he hadn't been in a cave then, so where had it come from? He closed his eyes and breathed the air deep through his nostrils. Using his magic, he searched for the reason for his rebirth. But what he found worried him immensely. He could no longer feel the presence of his children, at least not in this world. But he knew that there were many other worlds out there. Confusion spread in his mind as he expanded his presence to explore the universe. Normally his children should not have left this place, but he had been sleeping for a long time. With unimaginable speed, his mind roamed the realms of this reality in search of their essence but found it nowhere. But finally, he perceived an emotion that reminded him very much of his first-born. In his spiritual eye he could see a planet that shone brightly in the darkness of the universe. The green light of hope had filled this world. Deep in the core of the planet he sensed an artifact. Something very much likes his son. It was a manifestation of willpower. But it was artificial. Not alive. Finally, he could see the elders standing around a strange artifact made of green light. So, the self-appointed guardians of the universe had their hands in it. Apparently, they were trying to artificially harness the power of his children. Did they know that by creating it, they had weakened his children? Or that they had also saved the universe by that very act? Now it was these seven power sources that prevented the universe from returning to its original state. But their power was limited, and Eternicus had to restore the balance quickly. As quickly as he had reached Oa, as quickly his mind had returned to his body. He would have to create children again. Beings filled with his power and whose task it was to guarantee balance in the universe as manifestations of power.

But first he would have to leave this place. Concentrating all his power, he focused the magic in his body and formed it according to his will. Taking a deep breath his mighty body reared up and his eyes glowed with power. White flames sprouted from his mouth and met the walls that surrounded him. It took only seconds for the rock to turn red and liquefy. However, it took almost an hour for him to build a tunnel to the surface large enough for him to reach. Without worrying about the red-hot cinder, the dragon moved through the passage towards freedom. As soon as he could feel the light of the sun on his scales he lifted his head and enjoyed the rays on his white scales. Turning his head, he enjoyed the sight of his golden wings spreading and the cool winds gathering in them. A single swing of his wings was enough to lift his body into the air. With a delighted hiss, Eternicus turned into the currents of the winds and glided between the mountains. Astonished, he gazed upon the mighty mountains that surrounded him, which reached to the horizon. Apparently, this world had changed a lot during his sleep. As he slowly gained height, he circled the mountain that had served as his resting place for so long. When he finally broke through the clouds he could see the lonely top of the mountain. Pausing in the air, he hovered directly above the top and looked at the small flag that was waving in the wind on the top. Apparently, the natives of the world had climbed this mountain in the world and left this flag as a sign. When he carefully landed on the top he was careful not to desecrate the flag.

When his claws were deeply pressed into the rock, he put his wings close to his body again and enjoyed the view. Despite all his power and age, it was these small things that made him happy. As far as his eye could see a wonderful world and here and there the tops of other mountains in the world rose through the clouds. Thoughtfully he lowered his head and tried to remember how he had created his children. But this knowledge had slipped his mind. While he fathomed the magical powers of this world and bathed himself in the light of the sun he went over his options. First, he would have to find out what had happened to his children. The oldest civilization of this world were the inhabitants of Atlantis. Atlantis had been young when he lay down to sleep. But in his dreams, he had seen how some of his children had coexisted with the inhabitants of Atlantis. To his astonishment, however, the once mighty empire was no longer on the surface, but lay deep at the bottom of the ocean. Yet he could still feel life and magic in this place. Apparently, the inhabitants of this realm had adapted to their new environment.

Spreading his wings again he pushed himself off the sky and pushed himself off the mountain. A few hundred meters he just fell into the depths before he turned his wings into the wind and left the land of the mountains. When he had left the mighty mountains behind him, he flew over a land consisting of many fields and forests. He could see some small settlements that had been created by the two-legged creatures of this world. But they were no children of Atlantis. While he was gliding through the air, suddenly a strange noise came through the air. It sounded like a distant thunder. With some beats of his wings he held his position in the air and looked around. Finally, he could see what was making that noise. Birds of metal were coming towards him. These metal birds were tiny compared to him, but they were quite fast. It did not take long until the 4 strange animals passed him and then made a wide turn.

"You want to play? Then let's play!" Eternicus laughed and turned to the side. At once, the dragon plunged into the deep. The birds immediately turned and tried to follow him, but Eternicus, despite his enormous size, was many times more agile than these four. He enjoyed playing the game of tag immeasurably. With a quick turn he managed to get behind one of the animals and enjoyed hunting it. The hunting instinct was strong, and he roared with enthusiasm when the bird accelerated to supersonic speed. The deafening bang echoed in his skull again as he also accelerated. He had never seen an animal made of metal that produced fire in its body. Maybe those things weren't living animals, but machines. But this art did not remind him of the levitation machines of Atlantis. Either the abilities of the Atlanteans had decreased massively or a more primitive race had evolved on this world.

Whatever was fleeing from him was probably trying to get rid of Eternicus, but even though his maneuvers were becoming more and more daring, it couldn't shake the dragon. But Eternicus was suddenly unsure if he was doing the right thing. Just as he was about to turn, he heard a hissing sound only to be hit by something a fraction of a second later. A gush of fire chased over his body and threw him off balance. Even he suffered pain when at Mach 2 he went into an uncontrolled flight attitude. A second shock wave just missed him. After a fall of several hundred meters he managed to catch his fall and shook his head in a dazed manner. The other metal birds had turned again and flew directly towards him. From their wings, metal rods came off, driven by fire.

"You're attacking me?" it went through his head before the rockets exploded right in his chest. He cried out in pain and crashed to the ground again. As he fell, he wondered what could have aroused the creatures' anger. He had never harmed this species. Maybe one of his children had harmed these beings, let alone knew if this was a race or a tool. However, he could not allow these things to harm him any further. Angrily he opened his mouth and spewed breath from the next wave of attacks as well as the creatures themselves. Satisfied growling, he held his position in the air and looked around. On the ground he could see a metal box from which more of these things came. It was either the nest of these creatures or whatever, but Eternicus could not and would no longer tolerate such a challenge. Once again, he gathered his power in his lungs and channeled his power. Had it just spewed fire a moment ago, it was now all its power. A beam brighter than the light of the sun shot out of his mouth and vaporized the entire base of the Chinese Republic. Besides, the nearby city was also reduced to rubble and ashes. When the dust had settled, Eternicus could see nothing but scorched earth and a crater the size of a small town. Nothing had survived this attack, so he flew on towards the coast, growling.
