Chapter 13 by SmallestStories SmallestStories

Still nothing particular...

You might be getting bored.

After a while of... Looking around Aji's appartment to try and find something interesting, you ended up going back to sit on the bed, right beside Aji, who was still petting her tails on her lap. She didn't even look at you as you said.

"Your place looks... I don't even know how to define it."

"Ordinary ?" She asked, her voice quiet even in the silence around you.

"Yeah..." You first replied, before adding. "Still better than my room if I have to be honest... It's a mess that I never found the determination to clean, so..."

You had the end of your sentence, you knew how to phrase it, but you just couldn't say a word when you felt Aji's head rest on your shoulder. This was unexpected to you, and you tensed quickly, making it obvious you had no idea about how to react to that. Thankfully, your tension dropped when you heard her giggling a little, likely due to your reaction to her move.

"Did I scare you ?" Aji ask, a teasing note to her voice, albeit mixed with something you couldn't quite guess. Without waiting for an answer, she added : "Sorry, I'm just a bit overwhelmed lately. Just got kicked from my university, payin my rent is rough and I don't have a job to pay it this month... Life is hard."

You... Had no idea what she was up to. After all, you came back to life only hours ago, and she knew it, so why does she tell you that ? It didn't feel quite right to you that an almost complete stranger was telling you that, but you didn't have the will to say it since you felt a touch bad for her, for unknown reasons.

Then, you noticed how late it was. The sky was dark through the bedroom's window, and the city's streetlight were on. Thanks to this, you noticed the one thing that wasn't that ordinary about Aji's appartment.

"The view is great here." You simply say, a hint of a smile on your face. Your words made Aji straighten, glancing briefly at you before looking through the window.

You were right : the view wasn't obstructed by any building, letting you see the street running down right in front of the building. At this hour, no cars were coming through here, and pedestrians only appeared from time to time, not staying long. The still aspect of it all made the city quite appealing for once, since you were far enough to not see most of the imperfections on the street.

Aji likes it too.
