You have a new boss

In planning FinSense, the startup you were a part of, Kevin made sure to give it a design that would attract Millennials. You weren't sure what that meant, but you supposed the open concept, bar stools instead of chairs, bright lights, and minimalist design had attracted you and your friends.

Maybe Kevin knew what he was talking about.

When the three of you return to FinSense, Kevin is at the front of the office, a clownish grin smeared on his face. You didn't want to be mean, especially not to your boss, but Kevin is unattractive. He looks bloated all the time, is balding, and has an unpleasant amount of hair on his chest, which his open-collar shirts never hid.

But, you are not looking at Kevin. You are looking at Chet, who is standing next to Kevin.

"This is the second time today that you've spaced out," Cassandra says. When you don't respond, she follows your stare. "Do you know him?"

"He's the boyfriend of Jane's friend. I met him yesterday."

Chet notices you looking at him and smiles as if you two are close friends. Were you? He beckons you over. Still shocked, you feel that you deserve some answers.

When Kevin sees you approaching him and Chet, he gives you a sidelong, 'What the fuck are you doing?' kind of look. "We know each other," you say to Kevin.

"Yeah. We're best buds," Chet grins and slings an arm across your shoulders. You blush at this unexpected intimacy. As well, Chet's explanation still leaves Kevin perplexed. You couldn't blame him. You didn't know that you were best buds with Chet, either.

"What are you doing here?" you ask.

"This is the big announcement I had," Kevin answers for Chet. That is one of Kevin's (many) faults. He takes any opportunity he can to talk. "Chet here is joining us as our new VP of marketing."

You blank and turn to Chet, waiting for him to deny it.

"I would have told you yesterday if I knew you worked at FinSense, but I only found out that you worked there when Jane told me about it last night." He says, his arms still around you, though the gesture makes you feel trapped. Cornered.

"So, I guess I'm your new boss," Chet laughs.
