Chapter 18

So what will you do next?
You continue to fight your enemies. The enemies are getting closer...
You shout at the peasant archers: “Do as I do!”
You then emerge from the protection of the wooden barricade again. You walk and quickly shoot from a bow without stopping walking.
Your eyes are looking for the most dangerous enemy. Werewolf.
The monster that emitted this vile howl, chilling the soul with horror. Werewolf must be around somewhere.
But you don’t notice this monster among the crowd of enemies.
You fleetingly think: “Damn! Where is that vile wolf-like scum?!”
However, you already have an excessively large number of targets to fire from your bow.
You manage to fire two shots before you fall.
The reason for the fall is that three arrows hit your chest.
Your back hits the roof painfully.
But, fortunately for you, the three arrows that the satyr archers were able to hit you in the chest did not harm you.
Almost no harm, other than a painful bruise on your back from the fall.
Your scale-mail coat is armor that cannot be penetrated by bone-tipped arrows.
However, if a bone-tipped arrow hits your face... or your throat...
Then you will have problems. Especially considering the fact that these arrows are smeared with some kind of vile poison.
You stand up, grunting and wincing from the pain.
And you see that one of the peasant archers tried to follow your advice. He tried to shoot without stopping his movement. However, he probably lacked experience in archery. And he also lacked the speed of movement. The speed of the enemies' arrows was much faster than him.
Now you see the body of this peasant archer lying on the roof. The body convulses. This guy's mouth is foaming. His eyes rolled back so that only the whites of his eyes were visible.
You see that he is wounded: one arrow pierced his left shoulder. The satyr's second arrow pierced his right arm (just above the elbow).
These injuries could have been non-lethal.
If only there was a healer nearby.
If only these arrows were not poisoned.
Too many “ifs”...
You turn away from the dying guy.
Where is the last peasant archer? The last of the four in this position?
You hear the pitter-patter of feet. You look back towards the stairs and you see a peasant running.
A second later he is already going down the stairs.
Then you quickly peek out from behind the cover.
One quick shot.
Your arrow pierced through the head of the satyr, who was holding a large wooden club in his hands.
You quickly return back (under the protection of the barricade).
You managed to see that a crowd of enemies was already moving along the street of the village. Some satyr archers took up positions under the cover of peasant houses. Now, these satyr archers will be harder to hit with an arrow than when they were moving across open ground.
You hear the sounds of wood breaking. Satyrs break into peasant houses. These vile monsters will probably be surprised and disappointed that there is no one in the peasant houses. After all, on your order, the militia managed to forcibly evacuate women, children, old men and women from their homes.
However, there is an important detail.
The civilians of the village were evacuated to three fortified points: to the inn (where most of the civilians are), to the temple and to the blacksmith's house.
It is obvious that now the satyrs will try to break into the temple.
If now the enemies can break into the temple and kill all the militiamans, then...
There will be a massacre of all civilians who hid in the interior of the temple.
Bloodthirsty monsters will not spare anyone.
They will tear the bodies of every humans in this building into bloody pieces of flesh.
Including your body.
You think about these sad probabilities while you run to the stairs and go down the stairs.
What will you see inside the temple? Will you be able to organize the defense of the temple?
