Chapter 16

So, what will you decide to do?
You are responsible for the survival of the settlement. Morale and sentiment go to hell.
"Shoot everyone! Kill her right now! I order you!" - you shout loudly to the armed militiamen who are standing on the wall and on the towers.
Some of them hesitated because of the surprise.
But others followed your order.
And there were many shooters...
A barrage of shots fell on the group of envoys.
Some windriders from this group managed to fly away, being only wounded.
Others died.
Their bloody bodies lie on the ground.
And in this bloody mess you see the lifeless body of Ashandra, from whose numerous wounds red blood flows directly onto the white flag.
"This is not just the elimination of one of the enemy leaders. This is a way to reduce the number of deserters. The enemy will be furious about what happened and will not take prisoners. This means that our warriors will fight more resolutely and will not try to escape" - these are approximately your thoughts as you look at the result of your order.
"Remember everyone - the enemy will be merciless. The only way for you to survive is to defend yourself steadfastly, following my orders. If you try to surrender - a long, painful **** awaits you!" - you tell the militia.
Then you leave the wall.
For a couple of hours, you supervise the construction of additional fortifications.
You give instructions to Ben regarding the formation of a reserve of soldiers.
You order to Tina to equip secure warehouses for ammunition and food in the basement.
You did not manage to sleep well at night.
The enemy forces launched a combined attack on the southern and northern gates.
Fortunately, thanks to Ben's quick reaction, these attacks were repelled.
So far, the enemy has fewer firearms than your troops.
But the enemy has an important advantage - all their warriors can fly.
They have more winged warriors.
Your windrider warriors lose air battles if they fly to a high altitude.
Your warriors have to operate under cover of ground fortifications and limit their maneuverability.
The next morning demonstrated the obvious fact - now everyone in the settlement knows that Green Oasis is under siege by the enemy army.
And this enemy is very dangerous.
After all, this is a united army of windrider tribes.
Your orders help prevent panic among the population for now.
You ordered a couple of the most hysterical spreaders of panic rumors to be demonstratively executed.
It was some puny ghoul and human female.
In order not to waste ammunition, the method of execution was beheading with a large axe.
You hoped that the enemy would spend time concentrating their forces and give your troops time for a short respite.
However, in the evening the enemy again showed that his desire to destroy your settlement has not disappeared. In the evening sky you saw many silhouettes of enemy windriders.
They were flying at a high altitude.
Send them to intercept your windriders?
At high altitude, the enemy will have a numerical advantage and fire from the ground will be of little use as support.
Therefore, you decided to save the reserves of the windriders and you ordered to open fire from long-range sniper rifles on the enemy.
Unfortunately, your warriors did not have many such weapons.
Five corpses fall from a great height...
But what did they have in their hands?
The roar of explosions answers this question...
The remaining enemies drop homemade bombs.
Among these bombs, there are also some incendiary bombs.
The roar becomes louder.
Many buildings are partially destroyed.
Many corpses on the streets - not everyone managed to run to shelters.
Some buildings begin to burn.
You give the order to urgently put out the fires. Subordinates of Tina seem to cope with this task in about an hour.
And at night...
At night, a massive combined attack begins again.
The enemy attacks the eastern and western gates.
You personally participate in the defense of the western gate, shooting from a rare and valuable weapon - a sniper rifle with a night vision device integrated into the sight.
Many militiamen are wounded. Some of the windriders, an elite squad of your guards, have died.
However, in the area of the eastern gate, the situation is even worse.
There, an isolated ghoul's quarter adjoins the wall.
And the armed soldiers of the enemy were able to break inside, overcoming the wall.
Only by morning the fierce battle ended and the enemy was driven back from the city.
Ben was wounded in the left arm in this battle.
In response to your questions about the situation, he said: "It looks like someone opened the eastern gate to the enemy ..."
You ordered a quick check of this version.
It soon became clear that a group of ghouls (five persons) had deliberately helped the enemy and had opened the eastern gate, taking advantage of the confusion and the fact that most of the guards and militia were fighting on the walls.
These ghouls were shouting something indignantly about their rejection of your policy of restricting the rights and isolating the ghoulish population in a special quarter. They were also shouting that this was not their war and that they simply wanted to survive and escape.
Your order was unambiguous.
Swift demonstrative justice.
Five more severed heads.
You told all the other ghouls: "If you want to survive, fight. Or help the warriors as workers. Betrayal or attempt to escape will be tantamount to ****."
Zara (the leader of the ghoul's quarter) carried out your order and began to quickly form squads of workers from ghouls to clear rubble, deliver ammunition and carry the wounded.
So, the siege of your settlement continues...
