Chapter 17

So, the siege of your settlement continues...
The bloody confrontation has been going on for several days.
You have not been able to sleep normally for the second night.
You feel increasing fatigue in your body, but for now you **** yourself to overcome the weakness of the flesh.
The enemy troops deliberately attack at the most unfavorable time for you, hoping to take advantage of the exhaustion of the settlement's defenders.
Today you were busy organizing defensive positions again.
There are more and more wounded.
In the middle of the day, small flying squads of the enemy begin to maneuver at the limit of the range and shoot accurately from firearms.
Sometimes your warriors manage to hit the enemy with return fire.
Sometimes, enemy bullets kill or wound the militia of your settlement, who are trying to hide behind barricades or in towers.
Towards evening, another bombardment occurs.
Bombs from the sky...
There are not many of them.
It is obvious that the enemy does not have an abundance of such weapons.
But the casualties and destruction are still significant.
With a well-aimed shot from your sniper rifle, you shoot down one of the flying enemies.
But what does that mean when there are dozens of enemy warriors in the sky?
And how many warriors does the army of the united tribes of windriders have in total?
It seems that this number may be greater than the number of inhabitants of your settlement...
Suddenly, one of the militiamen runs into your office: "Mister Mayor! Ben was seriously injured due to the last bombing! Shrapnel wounds to the legs, hips and arms..."
"Fuck! He needs to be moved to a safe place!" - you say.
Through the half-open door, you see the silhouette of a hunched over human old man with a grayish mustache and a bald head. He is dressed in an old shabby cloak, a shabby gray shirt and leather pants. His brown eyes look at you and he bows in a ritual bow.
Gregory the Scribe.
"I'm busy right now, Gregory!" - You wave him off.
"Mister Mayor, with all due respect, I have to take up some of your valuable time. I know a good place for the wounded head of your elite security squad." Gregory's voice exudes uncharacteristic confidence.
"Well. Show me the place. Right now." - you order.
Then you and a small group of your guards go to the local hospital. The body of Ben is loaded onto a stretcher. Then you and your escorts (carrying the stretcher with the **** body of Ben) follow Gregory.
A human old man leads you through the streets to one of the buildings of the local warehouses.
You hear the distant sounds of gunfire.
The enemy troops have started shooting again from a long distance.
Before you go inside the building, a couple of bullets fly past your head and hit the wall of the building.
Inside the building, Gregory leads you to the basement.
In the basement, you see some kind of excavation. Here they dug the earth to a depth of about four meters.
And among the piles of earth you see a metal door, which is somewhat similar to the automatic doors in an ancient bunker.
Gregory goes to this door and presses something.
The door opens.
It is a small room with dim lighting from a fluorescent lamp on the ceiling.
There is very little space inside.
Only three persons can fit inside.
"Quickly, mister mayor! You must see this! We will save Ben. He will be in a safe place. But your guards will not fit in the elevator." - Gregory says in a hurry.
You order your guard squad to stay here.
You and Gregory carry the stretcher with Ben's body into the elevator.
The human old man presses another button.
The elevator moves down quickly.
Very far down.
Finally, the doors open.
The two of you carry out the stretcher and put it on the floor.
You look around in confusion.
Slightly rusty walls made of ancient metal and some unknown materials.
Mysterious symbols on the walls.
The dim light of many fluorescent lamps, which sometimes go out and soon begin to glow again.
Long corridors stretch in several directions.
Gregory the Scribe breathes heavily and looks at you with some strange expression on his face.
You suddenly realize that he is barely hunched over now.
"I think you, Dar, are smart enough to understand where we are now." - the old man's voice is unusually loud.
"Are these the same blocked corridors of the bunker? Have you managed to completely clear the rubble?" - you say.
"Yes. Success exceeded my expectations. I was able to organize not only the clearing of the rubble, but also find the elevator leading to the experimental sector. Regarding the main entrance to the bunker, I can tell you that your enemy's troops killed the few guards and all the prisoners of your small prison. But they could not get further. I reprogrammed the computers a little and blocked all the doors leading to those corridors. So you can not fear an attack on the settlement from this direction." - he answers you.
"How did you manage all this?!" - you ask, stunned.
"There is a lot about me you do not know, Dar... Follow me, I will show you something." - Gregory tells you, moving away towards one of the doors.
You follow him and enter a spacious and well-lit room.
And it would be better if this room were completely dark.
What you see is simply disgusting...
Large transparent tanks with some kind of liquid are located along the walls of the room.
From the tanks (there are a couple dozen of them) there are many wires going to the center of the room - to a large electronic device with a display and some kind of powerful energy accumulator.
Inside the tanks, being immersed in liquid, there are grotesque silhouettes of some creatures that vaguely resemble humans.
But the degree of disgusting monstrous ugliness makes you feel like you are about to vomit.
Some creatures have two heads...
Some creatures have their entire bodies covered in eyes and nasty wart-like growths...
Some creatures have three times as many limbs as normal, and these limbs are twisted in a very unnatural direction...
In addition, metal pipes emanate from the tanks and from the center of the room, which rush upward and probably penetrate the ceiling into the soil itself.
"A beautiful scene, isn't it? This place is literally the concentration of great power of science and technology! This is material proof of the power of the true masters of the world!" - there is a sense of triumph in Gregory's words.
You, overcoming disgust and barely maintaining self-control, ask: "What does all this mean?!"
"Did you really think that the **** level of soil fertility in the territory of The Green Oasis settlement is just a lucky coincidence? Of course it is not. It is the triumphant result of an ancient experiment. "Project ALC". Or more poetically: "Abundance of the Land of Canaan". The ancient scientists were well-educated men. And I serve the same power that they served." - his voice is somewhat mocking.
"Who do you serve?" - you ask him, feeling that all this time Gregory has skillfully hidden his true motives.
"I serve those who can do a lot. For example: heal your seriously wounded friend Ben. Or eliminate your current problems with the army of savages. I serve the true masters of the world - the **** that has the right to everything. The **** that proudly bears the name of the United States of America! And I have a proposal for you. I watched you and saw that you are ready to do anything for the survival of your settlement. This is worthy of respect. I like your determination. Therefore, I believe that we can help each other. Your settlement will become a secret stronghold for my colleagues. My colleagues will continue secret research of this bunker. You will also share information with us and carry out various small assignments. In exchange, I guarantee that your friend Ben will not die from these serious injuries. I also guarantee that the army of these savages will retreat from the walls of your settlement. But remember that our cooperation will be secret. The decision is yours, Dar…"
You have a poor understanding of the nature of the **** that Gregory the Scribe, as it turns out, secretly serves.
United States of America…
These words mean nothing to you.
But you understand that the forces of the army of the united tribes of windriders have an advantage over the forces of your settlement.
Your enemies can blockade your settlement for a long time and wait for your supplies to run out.
Daily attacks.
Bombings.
Sooner or later, your subordinates will simply be killed one by one.
Therefore, Gregory's offer looks beneficial for the survival of the settlement The Green Oasis.
However, the human old man may deceive you in something or keep something silent…
So now you have to make a critical decision…
You answer Gregory's offer as follows:
