Chapter 12 by daciasdesire daciasdesire

Are they questioned at all?

Yes and by a mom!

No sooner had they got out of the car together when they were spotted by Britney, Tyler’s mother, who made a beeline straight for them as if sensing the scandal.

“Well don’t you two look all cozy car-pooling together,” Britney said.

“Thank you, Britney, but…” Spencer began to explain that Darcie’s car had broken down.

“But mind your own fucking business, Britney,” Darcie bit right back cutting Spencer off.

Spencer coughed at Darcie, giving her a pacifying look.

“Ahh, sorry. Just a little testy,” Darcie apologised to make Spencer happy.

“Well, that’s no problem at all Darcie. Didn’t mean nothing by it,” Britney said accepting her apology.

“Darcie broke down at my place having come to look at the remodelling work I’ve been doing,” said Spencer, setting out the cover story for the pair of them. “Our girls are such good friends we thought nothing of it to come and pick them up together.”

“And neither should you,” agreed Britney, “you don’t want any of the other moms all up in your private business now do you.”

Darcie and Spencer were saved from any further questioning by Britney then by the arrival of Kimberly and Amy, having seen that their parents were together by Amy’s dad’s car.

“Hey mom,” Kimberly said to Darcie as they drew near.

“Hey sweetie,” Spencer said to his daughter.

“Hey, dad. Are you taking Amy and Mrs Collins home with us? Amy asked, piecing together why they all seemed to be sharing the same car.

“We are,” Spencer told them as they got in his Merc and headed for Darcie and Kimberly’s home.

“What’s the matter with our car, mom?” Kim asked Darcie from the backseat.

“It’s broke down over at Amy’s house this afternoon honey.”

“What were you doing over there during the day?”

“I’d... gone over there to have a look at the renovations.”

Spencer was glad he’d set out their alibi to Britney before.

“Are we getting our house done too? Can we do my room too? Can I have a bathroom?” Kimberly said, off and running at the thought of having their house remodelled like Spencer had done at his.

“We will have to ask your father when he get’s home tomorrow,” Darcie offered.

The girls had no further questions for why they’d been spending time together and talked happily to themselves about school for the rest of the car ride home. Spencer looked at Darcie and smiled. She did likewise. They were now in the clear as far as their kids were concerned. Pulling up out the front of Darcie’s house, Kimberly asked her mom if Amy and Spencer could stay for dinner. Seeing no reason to object, Darcie offered them all to come inside. Kim and Amy took off to Kimberly’s room while Spencer gave Darcie a hand to get supper ready. It felt strange to be sharing something so normal and domestic so soon into things but when Darcie told Spencer to open a bottle of red wine, it helped relax the pair of them. Half a bottle each was enough for them to feel less on edge around their children and Spencer had to admit he enjoyed a home cooked meal that he didn’t have to prepare himself.

After dinner and before it got too late, the Askrens and the Collins bid farewell to each other. Darcie giving him a friendly hug on the doorstep as she and Kimberly saw them off. She promised to come and see about the car tomorrow. Arriving back home, Spencer received a text on his phone from Darcie saying she enjoyed tonight. Spencer replied back that he did too and he looked forward to seeing her again tomorrow.

Does everything go alright with the car tomorrow?
