Chapter 13 by daciasdesire daciasdesire

Does everything go alright with the car tomorrow?

In the process of getting fixed.

When Spencer dropped Amy off at Carter J.H.S. the next day, he kept an eye out for Darcie but didn’t see her there this morning. It wasn’t really that strange of a thing, Amy and Spencer were running a little late with Amy unable to find her softball gear until the very last second. That and her car was still parked at his house so they might have found alternate means of getting Kimberly to school instead. Before Spencer left he thought he saw Britney and another mom Karen whispering together while taking furtive looks his way. Could be nothing.

Back at home, Spencer resisted the urge to send Darcie a message, trusting that she would have contacted him if there was anything wrong. He filled his morning in with a strenuous cardio workout on his home rowing machine. Spencer pushed himself to go twice as long as he normally would. He found after having no sex life for so long, he’d neglected certain aspects of his fitness just a little and was a bit worn out from trying to please Darcie as much as she liked. The lack of conditioning perhaps another reason they’d refrained from doing anything together yesterday.

After showering post workout, Spencer put some cologne on and dressed in a simple pair of cream slacks and a blue knitted jumper over a white tee. He went to his home office and caught up on some work emails. Nothing out of the ordinary. Various client emails, prospective work offers, an update from his old partnership and a new nondisclosure agreement written up by his lawyer. Retirement was good, if not till just recently, a little lonely. Almost all Spencer’s stress had gone, he just wished his wife Kirstin was still here to spend it with him. Six years and this was still an everyday thought.

Finishing with his computer, Spencer made a quick follow up call to his bank and asked for the customer manager Danielle. He’d been meaning to bulk up Amy’s college trust for some time now and with some recent client payments, now seemed like as good as time as any to get the ball rolling before reporting season. Danielle was her usual lovely bubbly self on the phone. Quick, efficient and very good at her job, Danielle promised Spencer the forms would be ready for him to sign the next time he called by, the bank; and Danielle; always happy to service him.

Hanging up Spencer heard a car pulling around the front of the house from where he was in his office around the side. The sound of tires rolling across the chipped grey stone of his driveway alerting him to the likely arrival of Darcie. He was suddenly much happier at the thought of her. He’d wished he’d seen her this morning at the school, even if it was a mere wave with all the other moms and children around. Making his way to the front door, Spencer could see a taxi heading back out the way it had come in. Opening his front door, Spencer smiled expecting to give Darcie a hug upon seeing her at last. He was instead surprised to see Tony, Darcie’s husband, coming up the front steps of his house onto the porch. This might not be good Spencer thought.

“Spencer. How are you?” Tony greeted him evenly.

“I’m well thank you, Tony. How about yourself?” Spencer replied back.

“You know how it is. It's always nice to get home after a few days in a motel.”

Spencer stayed deliberately silent.

“I have a mechanic coming to take a look at Darcie’s car shortly but I thought you and I needed to have a talk first,” Tony continued further.

How does Tony's 'talk' go?
