"I gave him until we know for sure to man up and take responsibility. I thought at the time that was 48 hours but I guess actually we're gonna know tomorrow morning, if I'm not seeing the effects of that pill you gave me.

"If I'm not changing back, with... everything that implies... I don't wanna handle it alone." Gwen is about to interject, "I know - I'll have you, and hopefully mom and dad - but I mean... I guess I don't want to be the only person whose life is going to change completely as a result. Anyway, my body obviously likes him, even if my head isn't sure right now, and with how horny I seem to get I'm going to need someone around to help me take care of it." You sit back, and look down at your belly... you touch it gingerly, unsure of what you're expecting or hoping for, but feel compelled to do it. "And I guess, if this baby does come along, I want it to have a dad, even if it's a lazy surfer bum like Alex. I guess a short time ago I was an equally lazy bum, so this lucky kid might have two deadbeat parents..." You look up at Gwen and attempt a smile, to convince her that you're at least partially joking. She catches on and laughs at the perfect moment, takes one hand for reassurance, and nods her agreement to your decision.

"Alright then babe, I think we have to do it like this:
1 - we go home and relax, get some rest for tomorrow.
2 - I think we both agree that if you're not puking in the morning, the pill probably hasn't worked. Normally there would be no point taking a test for a week or two, but things aren't normal in this case, so I think you should take one. If its negative, we still wont know for sure, but if its positive then, well... you know that part.
3 - next I think we need to collar Alex and have a sit down. Do you know where he'll be tomorrow morning?"

"Uhh, I think he's working tomorrow afternoon so he'll be in bed I guess."

"Perfect, we'll ambush him there." She finishes the last of her wine, and calls a waiter over. "Do you wanna bounce, or get some ice cream?" Normally you'd never leave this place without a bowl of ice cream first, but your stomach is obviously a lot smaller than before as you haven't even been able to finish your lasagna despite your enthusiasm for it at the start.

"Let's go sis, my appetite isn't what it used to be apparently."

"Ok Summer," she says with a wink. "I think you should drive, if that's ok, as it looks like I've had the rest of the wine... oops." You giggle with her.

"Sure Gwen, you big boozer. Let's just hope I can keep myself under control while on the road."

You leave for the car, arm in arm, plunging into the hot night outside together. Fortunately the ride home is uneventful - your restroom self-exploits enough to keep your mind focused for the twenty minute journey. Gwen chats easily in the passenger seat, tongue even looser than normal, and you find yourself settling into this new relationship with her. You never realized before that all this stuff she would talk about was actually interesting. You find out all about her college friends, their lives, jobs and boyfriends, and actually listening and taking it in for the first time. You are gasping together at the most recent scandal of Joanie being caught with her professor as you pull into the driveway.

You sit back down on the stairs as Gwen kicks off her shoes. You sigh heavily, leaning your head against the wall, and murmur thanks to your sister for this evening.

"... I'd be lost without you here Gwen. Thank you so much for helping me." And at last, some long suppressed tears start to flow again. Gwen sits down with her arm around your shoulders and holds you for a long time as these new tears fall. You are not heaving or sobbing this time, just sitting in silence, as the pale moonlight streaks in through the windows framing the two of you on the stairs.

Gradually your tears cease, and Gwen takes your hand again.

"Hun, I think you need to take your mind off all this. How about a movie? Or do you just want to go to bed?"
