What is the device?

After the drumming feeling in her chest faded, Lucy grabbed her bag from under her bed. Cautiously opening it, she found the blue notebook that she hoped might give her an explanation for the previous night's events.

The notebook showed diagrams and drawings of the strange white device that Lucy had also found in the damaged box at the crash site. Lots of scientific equations and mathematical calculations made up a large bulk of the notebook. After carefully flicking through each page, Lucy found something she did understand. The writing, although scribbled and hard to read seemed to suggest that the device still in her bag had some sort of time altering qualities. "The user of the device holds the power to manipulate space time including the ability to halt, accelerate and even repeat past time codes. The device can be considered extremely dangerous, due to the power to change and influence historical and future events. "

Lucy dropped the notebook, her mouth open in shock and disbelief. She really was in way too deep. She took the device out of her bag and studied it carefully. It was very simple, an oval device with one central button and two other buttons that were mounted on either side of the device. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, she pressed the central button.
