Chapter 3 by sicklyhare sicklyhare

Is it a nothing day?

Wanderlust and "Lucky" Breaks

Your expedition into the forest gave you one irrefutable answer. Nothing really changed here. You spent several hours simply checking all the areas of note, the watering hole, the Goblins by the river, the ancient statue...

Though, the Goblins seemed like they weren’t succeeding in making their village this reset, the...Sun Tribe or something they were called. Whatever, it's not your problem.

Other than that, you avoided the elite mob further up the river, no use checking there when you’ve been eaten on more than one occasion for simply existing too close. With a shudder and a grumble from your stomach, you sought out some food.

Just as you neared your favorite hunting grounds you heard the sounds of a fight. What else could you do but head towards it? You might just get yourself one of those claimant thingies, or maybe even a woman!

In mere moments you got close enough that it appears you’d stumble across the fight at any moment. Of course your luck went further than that as the underbrush just a few feet ahead of you broke, and with it a woman came barreling through, slamming into you. The **** of her didn’t budge you more than shock you, she landed at your feet and looked up in panic before realization set in. She dropped before eking out much more than a meep and above her head the marker for unconsciousness lit up, signifying she would be out for about four hours.

She was quite a pretty woman, her garments were light cloth, her body lithe and well maintained, her dark brown hair was riddled with green leaves, sticks, and dirt clumping it into weird angles. Her hands clutching a gnarled wooden staff like her life depended on it, her face contorted in frustration, even in an **** state. Your long habits of identifying threats paid off as you attempted to check her stats. Unfortunately, you only got the basics from her.

From where she came, you heard voices leisurely moving closer. “Dammit Chris, don’t hockey puck her out of the forest, we want the loot.”

“Yeah yeah, I just got a bit too into it, chill Rod we got this,” Came the response.

Just as the sentence finished, the bushes began to shift and both a half orc Fighter came into view followed by a Human Cleric who you presumed to be “Rod”.

The two stopped, not expecting to see you, you held a staring contest for what felt like minutes but was likely only a handful of seconds. You broke it by looking down at the **** woman and back at this party of at least two before making your decision.

You hefted the woman up on your right shoulder and turned around. You heard the tell tale sign of a Cleric casting a spell as you Bull Rushed in the opposite direction.

Coming back to your senses, you glance back to see the telltale sign of a Hold Person spell that successfully hit a tree you stood next to. You didn’t linger any longer as you booked it.

The shouting from behind you made you think this wouldn’t be an easy escape, “Sam, cut off the cow, we’ll keep on his heels!”

Your mind raced as you stomped through the trees and brush, passing scared animals in a vague direction you think was towards the river. Could you lead them to the Goblins as a distraction? No, they would hardly slow them down, the river couldn’t be forded before you’d be dead and you can’t lead them back to your cave, that’s like begging to be cornered.

As you thought about things you heard the fwip of an arrow narrowly missing you, sinking into the tree trunk you call a club. You glanced right to see a Rogue just barely keeping pace about sixty feet off to your right.

You feel like you’re being cornered, that’s when you thought of a solution. You hated it, you were likely to die from it, but you’d be damned if you didn’t take these players out alongside you!

Angling further left, you head towards where you think the river was at its most dangerous. Again you hear the telltale sign of a Cleric casting, this time though, your Bull Rush was on cool down, without the ability to move out of range, the spell strikes true, a Holy Arrow burning into the thin fur of your back. You grunted in pain, but the river was coming into view, so you ignored it and continued. You had one shot to get this right, one throw.

Two more arrows shoot past you, narrowly missing your impressive size as you get into range. Without slowing down, you shift your club and throw it like a mighty spear towards the river, it flies true, soaring into a dive towards the center of a large dark blotch in the riverbed. You break from the trees and reach the edge of the water, turning to face the party of hunters.

KrakMunk3y was the first to break from the treeline, seeing you stand your ground, he assumes a confident grin. Next came Rod5ter, the Cleric, who immediately began casting an AOE spell. It fired off after a moment, illuminating the two of them alongside the Rogue who stayed just at the edge of the treeline. The light faded quickly as the two began talking again, “c’mon dinner, sit still and let us get that sweet xp,” The fighter piped up. He moved his buckler to face you while his sword sat in his other hand, loose and ready to strike from below.

“That free claimant crystal will be nice too, get me an awesome Batcave,” Rodney the Cleric added, moving to flank you on your left.

They seemed like they were about to speak up again when the sound of water rumbling came from behind you. You felt it more than heard it, he finally got his lazy ass up to see what was happening.

Level 15, Water Drake

You kept your eyes on the party, who seemed completely thrown off by the monstrous 30 foot tall creature snake its way above them all. The shadow loomed well into the treeline, the only sounds the Water Drake’s grumble and the vast water dripping off the razor sharp scales of this monstrosity. To your surprise (and excitement) above them lit up a status effect.

Stunned, 5 seconds

You began counting down from 5, staring at the shadow as you tried to predict what was coming. A deep hiss filled the air, the sharp webbing from its sides flared open, the fighter broke his status early and took a step back.

You roared at the party, pulling their attention to you at the end of their stun. After the brief war cry, you rolled to the right, dodging the incoming rush of water. You ended your roll hearing the panicked cry of the rogue cut short. Following this up with your Bull Rush fresh off of cool down you made a mad dash for safety.

[Authors note]

I've got the next 4 chapters roughly planned out, spoilers will be at the bottom of the character chapter added each update, so if you don't want to be spoiled for what's going to be next, just skip the section. The rest of the main cast will be introduced within that time frame. Next chapter has only some light teasing But the one after that will have some sex finally.

That was a doozy, now that you're somewhat safe, where to next?
