What's next?
Two weeks later...
Marching back and forth in front of the three SHIELD agents in front of him, Director Nick Fury scowled, handing the three folders for them to review while he gave them their orders. The two women and one man read over the folder of information as the director spoke for them to hear their assignment.
"Ladies and gentlemen, you three have been handpicked for this mission to gather intelligence on the city of gamma-exposed people now declared as Gam-Hattan. Collect data, samples and interviews of the populace below and return here for decontamination and debriefing after 72 hours. Are there any questions?"
Seeing all three raise their hands, Fury pointed to the blonde woman to his right. "Yes, officer Meadows?"
"Is this REALLY a mission Sir? Or are we being sent on mandatory vacation leave?"
Standing still with his arms crossed, the Director gave the woman a dirty look with his one good eye. "What are you implying agent?"
"Well, I find it strange that we've been given the assignment of going to a commune of green skinned gym rats which is about as close to a weekend of shore leave as anything else."
"Stow it Agent Meadows! Anyone else? You!" Fury pointed to the man at the left of him.
"No... I'm with Meadows here, I was assigned to this mission PRECISELY because I didn't take my vacation days for this year."
"Dammit Jenson, I didn't pick you all because you are workaholics! I pulled you from your other duties to give you field work experience. NOTHING more!"
Seeing the third one still has her hand up, Fury sighed. "Yes, agent Summers?"
"Are we being paid for these three **** vacation days? My supervisor in R&D claimed we do, but I haven't read our benefits in a little while."
Breathing in sharply, Fury pointed over to the verti-bird parked on the flight deck and barked out orders that made the three immediately gather their things and run for the docking ramp. "GET ON THE MUTHERFUCKING PLANE, ON THAT MUTHERFUCKING FLIGHT DECK AND GIVE ME A MUTHERFUCKING REPORT IN THREE FUCKING DAYS!!! Not you Jenson, come here..."
Approaching the confused SHIELD agent, Fury pulled open his wallet and gave the man a $20 bill.
"Get me a shirt from their souvenir shop, preferably blue and extra-large."
"Uhm... Yes sir..."
Pocketing the money, the docking ramp closed, and the verti-bird took off to fly down to the city below.
*
Flying towards the island at a decent speed, the three agents looked out onto the skyscrapers and buildings with some trepidation. They knew the human population that weren't turned were **** to vacate for their safety, leaving only the Hulks in charge of the entire island all to themselves. For the most part, the only thing that SHIELD had about how the island was were mostly rumours and hearsay.
"You know... For a place overrun with green skinned giants I thought the city would be in ruins."
"Yeah, I heard that too!"
"I heard the leader of Gam-Hattan is a burly, scary, green lady."
"Well, we'll soon find out." Stated the pilot, seeing the landing pad down below and flicking switches overhead of his seat to open the landing gear. "Looks like we got a gaggle of green people outside waiting for us."
Grimacing, the trio checked to make sure they were armed and prepped just as the ship landed with a heavy clunk of noise and the walkway began to open and descend for them to step out. Anxiously making their way out of the shuttle, the trio found themselves surrounded by a crowd of well-dressed giants applauding with a small band in the background playing a pleasant melody while the three made their way down what appeared to be a red carpet and confetti falling all around them. Up ahead what got their attention were a trio of towering women in stylish office attire with their hands folded in front of them, smiling down at the three SHIELD agents who walked up. The green skinned woman in the middle of the three with her hair braided in a bun bent at the waist and offered her hand to the man in front of her.
"Hello, I am Jennifer Walters, one of the leaders of Gam-hattan, this is Betty Ross my chief advisor and this is Carol Danvers our head of security."
Turning to the other two women at either side of her, Betty and Carol both smiled and waved to the SHIELD agents who stood idly looking up at the Shulks.
Bringing up a clip board, the woman to the right kept a stern face despite blushing at the incredible figure of the three amazon women in front of her, making her feel self-conscientious about her own body.
"We are agents Kelly, Richard and Ann respectively, we are here for our vaca... I mean inspection of the island."
Plucking the clip board from the woman's hand delicately, Jen handed it over to Betty who skimmed over the details and handed it back to the woman. "Well, I think we can accommodate you all, please enjoy the city, look around, have a good time, I promise you'll enjoy yourself. We've also booked you a hotel room at the gentle giant." Jen winked, giving a smile hinting at the terrible name to the hotel. "OH! And so that you don't get lost, I've hired some chaperones to keep you company and give you information about our sprawling metropolis. Please say hello to Cpt Steve Rogers and Greer Grant.
Looking over to the two Hulks Jennifer Walters had gestured to, one of the agents went into a blush when she looked up at the smiling green face of the former Captain America in a custom-tailored version of his dress uniform and cap and Tigra, wearing a very stylish brue sun dress and matching shoes to go with her green and black striped complexion. Looking to one another and shrugging their shoulders, the three agents continued on foot to see Gam-hattan for what it had to offer. Getting a chorus of cheers from the Hulks behind them wishing the best of time while they were there. Still waving them farewell, Betty leaned over to Jen's shoulder and whispered into her ear.
"Head adviser? Really? Why couldn't I be leader?"
"Yeah!" Hissed Carol, leaning in on the other shoulder. "I'm the closest thing to leadership quality around here, next to a scientist and a lawyer."
"Oh shush. Just admit you lost the coin toss."
*
Making their way through the streets of Gam-hattan, the trio of agents and their guides looked around with a fair bit of surprise on their faces. From the stories, news reels, reports and footage, they had expected the island to be a wasteland. A picked clean landscape ravaged by gamma exposed monsters that had torn down the famous city overnight! The idea of coming here was akin to visiting a realm of monsters. Some even compared it to the orcish kingdom of Mordor! Strolling down the pristine and maculate streets, Agents Meadows, Summers and Jenson continued to wear a look of confused shock. All around them the city looked... Unchanged. Clean streets, trees, busy traffic and pedestrians crossing the streets. And they were all huge! Groups of people passed them by, either talking on cell phones or chatting with each other on their way down the street, and not one of them were shorter than 8 feet tall. Looking up at a quartette of red skinned women with yellow eyes and wearing stylish cocktail dress passed them by, one of them looked down at Jenson and winked back at him with a smirk as they left.
"I know... It's a lot to take in, but you get used to it after a while." Offered Cap, looking down and guiding the three agents like they were school children. In comparison to their size, they might as well have been.
Nearby a small car pulled into a parking space where a Green skinned Hulk in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt squeezed himself out the door and panted to himself as he gently closed the door and pulled out the key fob from his pocket to lock the car. Seeing the three humans look at the Prias and back at the green giant in front of them, the Hulk snorted and pocketed his keys.
"Hey, not ALL of us can afford a humvee!"
A little taken back, they continued on. Taking in the sights of the city, everything just seemed so surreal. Nearby, they spotted a six-armed mailman with blue skin emptying a mailbox before pointing his hand up to shoot a line of webbing and swing away. A pair of Hulks, one green and the other purple hovered a foot off the ground while writing a ticket to a green Hulk pleading his case over a broken bench before handing the man the ticket and then flying off into the sky, where hundreds more like them could be seen flying between the skyscrapers like the traffic on the ground.
"Okay... Not the lands of Mordor the guys at the mess hall talked about."
Tigra giggled at that, behind the back of her hand.
"Quit staring!" Frowned Meadows as she elbowed Jenson in the arm. "Didn't you SEE her? She'd break you in half."
"Where should we check first? The city's changed a lot in the two weeks we've restructured, it's a lot to take in all at once." Offered Cpt. Rogers, waiting on their response.
Stopping at a crosswalk as they looked around, a squeal of tires and a massive cab stopped at the cross walk where a green skinned man wearing a sweatshirt and jeans slapped his hand on the roof of the cab and flipped off the driver.
"HEY I'M WALKIN HERE!"
"YOU WANT SOME'O THIS?! DEN WALK WHEN ITS GREEN!"
"I'LL SHOW YA GREEN!"
Scrunching her face, Agent Meadows shrugged before she spotted a tourist stand where a massive blue skinned Hulk slouched on a reinforced chair reading a magazine. Plucking a map off the rack nearby, the Blue-Hulk eyed the woman as he pointed to the price tag on the rack and nodded when she pulled out some money. Returning to the group, she brought three maps with her and shared them with her teammates.
"Here, we can split up to visit the vital areas of the city, file our reports and meet at the hotel here when we're done."
"Alright then..." Reading the map of the city, it was divided into districts based on which Hulks lived where in the city. Pointing at specific areas, Meadows continued. "Here, Jenson can visit the park, Summers can check with the Defenders district and... I'll check with the X-Men at the far corner here."
"The Mutants? That part of the map says it's a trash dump... Literally." Tigra pointed out, bending at the waist to loom over the woman, looking over her shoulder.
Standing straight with her chin up, the woman narrowed her eyes. "We do a dirty job Miss Grant; we'll just get the work done and we can meet together at the hotel we've been booked."
Sighing, the other two agents and their guides traded looks and eventually nodded.
"Are you sure you want to go alone? We can take you there."
Rolling her eyes and waving, the Agent smirked. "Please, I used to live here years ago. If you can make it here in New York, you can make it anywhere."
Splitting up, they went off to do their own tasks. But as soon as she was out of sight from her two compatriots, Ann Meadows slipped into an alley way and checked over her shoulder to make sure she wasn't spotted. Immediately, her appearance began to change, her straight forward and well-tailored SHIELD uniform melted away and took the form of a form fitting one-piece white suit with ankle length loincloth, a belt of brass skulls appeared to complete the ensemble with knee high white boots. her skin turned a deep ocean blue, and her hair became blood red. Smiling at the predicament, Mystique reached for a small device in her hand and clicked at a button.
"I've entered the island city and am now heading to the district Xavier's students are being kept."
"Excellent Mystique, be sure to keep unnoticed until we meet our old friend, and be sure the teleportation device is ready... For my arrival."
"As you wish Magneto."
Returning to her disguise, Mystique looked at the map and headed back out onto the street where she waved over a large taxicab. Getting into the back seat, the larger green skinned driver looked over and smirked at the woman. "Where to lady?"
"Take me to the city dump."
