Chapter 62

What's next?
Letting the X-Men know.
"So, if I am to understand all of this, Director," the blurry figure hissed down at Fury. "A horde of super-powered aggressors, each of them with the power to level mountains, sacked one of our nation's cities, forcibly turned its entire populace into their barbarous ranks, and your counterplay to this sudden and pressing crisis...is to hand them the keys and write up a lease?"
Fury stood at a rigid parade rest as the holographic projections of SHIELD's chief administrators hovered over him in a semi-circle, scolding him like a child after breaking a window. It was a part of the job Fury had long since accommodated to, but he still couldn't help but bite deep into his lower lip while he waited for the group to finish their blistering. Because once they did, Fury would have to make the case for his call on the situation--or rather, Walter's bargain. And if there was any other thing Fury hated than having to deal with stuffed-shirts questioning his judgment, it's having to vouch for someone who his judgment was telling him to jettison into space.
"You DO realize this means we'll have to sterilize the entire island, Director," declared another council member. "Yesterday morning, Manhattan's population was at one-point-five million. SHIELD surveillance estimates that number to have since quadrupled. This is going to make Chernobyl look like a gas leak!"
"And that's only set to keep growing, now that you've demonstrated yourself to be so utterly spineless to them, Director."
"Forget about Manhattan! By this weekend, they'll mosey on into Long Island. And who will oppose them?"
"And why stop at the US? Just this moment, they have the numbers of a small nation, and the combined military might of most of the G20!"
Fury took the last jab to interject. His lip stung as he finally relinquished his upper teeth's hold on it.
"With all due respect Council-members, I am well and truly outgunned, and because Doctor Richards was among the transformees, the mass teleportation option is not on the table. Diplomacy was my best option at achieving containment, and for the time being we have it."
"You call that 'containment,' Fury?! From my two working eyes, it looks more like a technicolor muscle beach crossed with that one Kurt Russell movie!"
"The succession from the US was a bluff, councilman", Fury granted. "It's a means to wash our hands of a sizable citizenry that, like you said, could each turn mountains to gravel on their own. It'll keep this situation from spilling into an international incident until we figure an effective long-term solution."
"You think it hasn't already become an international incident? What about the throngs of foreign tourists that were in the city at the time of the attack? Or the foreign diplomats? Or did you forget that the UN Building was among Manhattan's cityscape that was leveled yesterday?"
Fury coughed. "The building's been rebuilt, councilwoman. And any and all people who have been in the isle of Manhattan over the last thirty-six hours are now members of this no-man's-land I'm letting Walters call a nation-state. If any foreign powers want to take exception to that, they will have to talk to the Hulks, not the President or any of us."
"Oh, great. Then the Kurt Russell comment a moment ago WASN'T hyperbolic. This isn't a nation-state at all. It's a penal colony."
"Not necessarily. Since the launch of the EMP, every Gamma-irradiated being standing within a ten-mile radius from Avengers Tower have had their excess radiation drained out of 'em like a freshly-squeezed orange. Reports indicate that all subjects are completely docile and have their higher reasoning and judgement restored. Even if this is a temporary status, it's afforded us a helluva lot more time to strategize a permanent solution."
"Oh, splendid 'diplomacy' then, Director. So you didn't so much diffuse a bomb as you did snuff out the fuse and call it a day. By the sound things, you've effectively chosen to coddle these brutes, and all it will take for escalation is for any of them to not feel they're being pampered enough."
Fury flexed his neck to the right. "The Fantastic Four and Avengers were among the transformees. They have volunteered to keep the peace as they always have. All affected Hulks have a significantly diminished power level, while all the affected heroes retain their respective powers in addition to a slight power boost. They're more than equipped to handle a few unruly civilians."
"A few, perhaps. But potentially millions?"
Fury chuckled. "Both teams have gained something of a calvary since the attack."
"If Doctor Richards is in fact complying with the response, why ISN'T the mass teleportation option on the table after all?"
"Y'all are worried about coddling them? Well conspiring to make them all go poof would rock the cradle to hard, as I see it. We don't want to incite suspicion or antagonism if it can be avoided. And so long as relations remain amicable, I'm sure Richards and the rest would be open to the suggestion of the option should their numbers get out of hand."
"Well, what about Project: Achilles?"
Fury groaned. "That was operated when we had less than a dozen Gamma Mutates to deal with, not a few million. If we're still going along with the metaphor, at this point it's not an Achilles Heel anymore as it is an Achilles Microbe. Doctor Banner is already en route from the Rockies, and we're in the midst of securing Sampson, Pym--literally anyone who isn't already down there to find a solution."
Turning to look at each other, the board members of SHIELD murmured to each other, addressing the situation while the director stood and looked up waiting on their decision. While the holographic representatives argued, Maria Hill approached Nick Fury from behind with a folder in hand, whispering into his ear before leaving him with the administrators and their decision.
"If I may have all of your attention please." Seeing the administrators stop to look down at the man, Fury nodded and tapped a finger over the folder he was given earlier. "I've just been informed that Carol Danvers and a group of blue skinned Hulks have left the city and are making her way upstate."
Immediately the administrators barked out demands and inquiries, filling the room with a barrage of questions, all of which demanding a reason for her departure and what steps would be taken to stop or detain her.
With a smirk and dropping the folder on a nearby coffee table, Fury scoffed. "As per our agreements, the Hulks are sending someone to handle the OTHER Hulk situation we have there."
"So that they can do WHAT exactly?!"
Making a face as he poured himself a drink and sat at his chair, Nick Fury made a toasting gesture. "To bring them to the Manhattan island."
*
Flying through the air with several of her adult kids in tow, Carol kept her eyes in front of her like she'd always been trained to do in her air-**** days. Training that stuck even after gaining her powers, keeping her focused. Still, there was a childish delight in being able to fly under her own power that made her smile. The feel of the wind blow through her hair, the scent of the breeze where she was going, and the thrill of how high she was over the landscape passing her by at three times the speed of sound. Spreading her arms out, she spun in the air, smiling ear to ear as the world spun around her. She loved it every time, to her it was always the perfect moment of hers; when she was free up in the sky.
"Are we there yet?"
"I'm hungry!"
"Should we REALLY be this high up?! I mean, I'd be happy being on the ground."
And just like that her perfect moment was ruined and she realized she was in the equivalent of driving her kids to the extended family for a quick visit. She had brought five of her children who were capable of flight with her both as a representation of their new home AND just in case things got messy.
"Hey!" Called out her one daughter with six arms, pointing a hand down at the road beneath them. "They have a donut shop down there, can we go?"
"We can get some bagels with coffee!"
"BAGELS!" Blurted out the one flying blue hulk with his arms out like he was cheering.
"Hey! Hey! Hey!" Carol called out from over her shoulder to her five kids. Two of which sired from Peter as her six armed son and daughter squirmed under her gaze like their more humanoid siblings. "One more word and I am turning us right back around!"
Seeing the three men and two women with sky blue skin immediately quiet down, Carol was content for now when she heard a silent "We'll be quite" From one of her sons. Sighing to herself and pouting her lip, Carol rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to what was ahead of her. Considering short notice, she wondered if maybe she should have brought the first generation Hulks with her, to check on the X-Men and see if the gamma drainer reached them. Yeah it would have been a hassle holding them up in the air with her two arms on the trip, but it would have felt like a delegation to check up on old friends and not her on a 'family' trip. Looking behind her shoulder briefly, she found two of her kids bickering, another with his head in the clouds... Literally, and the other two sulking and complaining under their breath about having to go on the trip.
"Wonder if MOM felt the same way carting me around." Carol wondered to herself.
Looking down at the landscape below, Captain Marvel grinned when she spotted a few familiar landmarks and waved to her kids to follow her as she dove down to ground level. Finally touching down on terra firma, Carol looked out from the entrance of the Xavier mansion and decided to make the rest of the trip on foot. Looking behind her at her children looking up and around the trees of the lone driving strip to the mansion, Carol decided to open up and try to bond with her new children.
"So children, we're going to meet the X-Men, try to be on your best behavior will you? They have a long history of people trying to kick their front door down. Any questions?"
Seeing a hand risen, Carol pointed to her son. "Why did we fly here?"
"Well Jen lost mental contact with Professor Charles Xavier after she activated the gamma drainer, and since the telephone lines were down, we're heading here ourselves because we can get here the fastest."
"Do we have to wear these?" Asked the burly looking son of hers who tugged at his turtle neck sweater. The tall blue skinned Hulk was given a quick change of clothes thanks to Scarlet Witch and a bout of clarity with a few pints of black roast coffee. Still, he tugged at the neck line constantly. "This stuff is itchy."
"Yeah." Complained her one daughter with a short crop of white hair, rolling her shoulder to the denim jacket she wore over her black blouse. "Was better off without the stuff."
"Get used to it kids, this is called civility." Pointed Carol with her finger and promptly turned at the heel to keep walking. "Where we are going, the X-Men pride civility above a lot of other things, you can learn a few things from them as we meet their leader."
Finally coming up to the gated entrance of the grounds, Carol gasped at the sight of a writhing horde of Hulks grinding against each other in the distance ahead of her where the almost skeletal remains of the mansion's girders could be seen. Grunts and roars could be heard off in the distance, making Carol grimace as she looked to her kids and made a face of worry.
"Should I be taking notes?" Asked her six armed daughter innocently. "Because it looks like they got lots to teach after all."
Covering her face with her hand to hide the ocean blue blush on her cheeks, Carol completely forgot that Wasp had been sent to turn the X-Men in their initial invasion. She had never realized how GOOD Wasp was at stirring trouble when she felt like being cheeky, but this?!
"Well... Looks like we have are hands full on this one."
"Not MY hands, I'm not sticking ANYTHING in that!" Scoffed her daughter, the woman shaking her head and looking like she was going to throw up.
"Ditto!"
"NOOOOOOPE!"
Pointing back at them with a firm tone of voice, Carol put her foot down. "Look here, WE are going in there to find Xavier and I don't want to hear another complaint from you, or else I'm not brewing the French roast when we get back home!"
A sobering look of shock spread over the five as they stood straight and looked more obedient.
"... I'll be good."
Turning back to the Xavier property, Carol sighed and started walking, wondering if she too was that much of a handful when she was a kid. Gently shoving the iron gates open and winces when she over did it and sent it off its hinges. "Nice one mom." Giving her daughter a dirty look, Carol kept walking forward towards the throng of Hulks lounging at what used to be the front entrance of the mansion. But then something happened. Taking another step forward, it felt like she was passing through a veil of some sort, like brushing past a silk curtain before finally moving past it. The moment she did, and her eyes blinked. The whole world changed around her, included HER!
The landscape was pristine, and manicured. The mansion fully restored and decorated as if the place was hosting an outdoor diner party for guests. The Hulks she spotted earlier no longer looked like Hulks but the human forms of those that had been exposed, sharply dressed and sitting primly at seats while they chatted and shared drinks. Stumbling around confused and looking around at it all, Carol looked down and her eyebrow raised to her hair line. Gone was the denim jacket and pants custom tailored to fit her 7'3 frame. She was now her original human height and wearing a lovely white sundress with a corsage flower at the front of her blouse and a smaller flower tied in her hair. Still confused, she looked to her kids and was just as stunned as they were. Her daughters wore the same thing she was and her sons were wearing tailored suits like the one she remembered her father wore during her graduation ceremony.
"What the fff..."
"CAROL SUGAH!"
Turning to the source of the voice, Carol was caught off guard by a fierce hug coming from Rogue. The southern belle embracing the woman affectionately, and only pulling away after a fairly long minute and held Carol's hands in hers as she stood delighted by her presence.
"Rogue?"
The human looking woman wore a stylish green sundress of her own with matching sandals and flowers sticking out of the hair braid she wore, her iconic leather jacket over her shoulders as she gently held Carol's hand with her own.
"What's going on Sugah? We've been havin a blast since we got word that you were going to try and reel back dem Hulks in New York."
"Rogue, we did it. We stopped the invasion, it was all because of the Leader. I just came to give the news to you all since Jen hadn't heard from Xavier since we stopped the invasion of Manhattan... Care to explain why you can hold my hands without putting me in a coma again? And why everything suddenly looks normal and I'm wearing my prom dress from when I was 18?"
Smiling and pulling away to bat her hand playfully at Carol, Rogue rolled her eyes and gestured to the garden party behind her. "Ol' Professor and the other telepaths have been fortifyin all our minds to keep us thinkin straight and conjurin up the lovely scenery for us all while we waited on y'all to save the day. After the whole Wasp invasion, this mansion has seen some nasty stuff." Waving her arm over to everyone they spotted earlier sitting under trees or chatting together, the place looked serine and peaceful. "I guess y'all could call this therapy. By the way, why are you blue?"
Looking down at her hands and arms, Carol found her skin colour hadn't changed, showing her skin as a sky blue instead of a light pink. Looking down at herself, the woman gave a soft smile. "I guess I just recognize myself more like this now."
Shrugging, Rogue winked back at her former rival. "Y'all should see what ah look like!" Leaning in close to whisper, Rogue kept up her pursed smile. "Just think of it like them optical illusions, try lookin ahead a couple of feet when ya look at me."
Taking a step back and giving Carol a pose, Captain Marvel did as she was suggested and tried looking at what was behind Rogue. The moment she did, she saw Rogue for her current state, a green skinned amazon of a woman solidly built with powerful muscles that rivalled titanium in strength yet sporting womanly curves that would have made a porn queen jealous. The sundress was nowhere to be seen, leaving the 8 foot tall woman with dark green hair reaching down to her lower back completely naked. The only thing that helped recognize the woman from her former self was the stripe of white running down her hair.
"Wow..."
"Come on y'all, lets go see the professor!"
Walking deeper into the outer gardens of the mansion, Carol looked around and found everyone wearing their Sunday best, chatting and laughing with conversation or drinking tea together. When she unfocused her eyes just like Rogue taught her, she saw the party for what it was. Off in the distance on what looked like a park bench were Logan with Sooraya and Nori. The two wearing a very fashionable burka and silk dress respectively. Both young women smiled and laughed while Wolverine leaned back and chuckled at his own joke. In reality the green furred wolf man was making out with a mahogany skinned goddess with flowing black hair that seemed to shimmer like sand while a blue skinned Nori sucked him off fiercely.
Along the trek she could recognize some of the other X-Men sitting together. She even stopped in her journey to spot someone she recognized and made her way over to a woman wearing a stylish yellow and black matching blouse, dress jacket and skirt talking with several men at a table. A women she very quickly found was her friend Janet Van Dyne.
"Jan? Is that you?"
Looking up from hearing her name, the Wasp smiled and got up from her seat to hug the blue skinned pilot. "CAROL!" Pulling away, Jan pointed towards the large group of men who were sitting with her at the extended table. "What brings you all the way here? I thought you were trying to stop the invasion."
"That's why we're here Jan, we succeeded. I came here to tell Xavier we made an agreement with SHIELD and the government, we're going to turn the island of Manhattan into..."
"Oh! I have to introduce you to my children Carol, this is Billy, David, Carl, Hank jr, Steven, Robert, Richard, Daniel..."
Seeing the woman point out every well dressed man waving back to the sound of their name, Carol was a little taken back at how... Extended her number of children were. Not to mention how it made her feel to have so many leering eyes on her. "Wow, you've been pretty busy on your own."
"Well they ARE my children Carol, can't help but feel a little proud at having so many kids." Smirked Wasp with a smug grin. "Oh and this is Xavier's top student, meet Scott Summers."
Seeing the well dressed man extend his hand out to shake, Carol heard about the man and had bumped into him once or twice when the two teams had bumped into each other. The man looked handsome without the big, clunky visor over his eyes, but there was an air about him that made Carol feel something was off. Even though he was smiling, his eyes were sizing her up, especially at her chest. Something she never heard the man was known for. "Hello, I'm Captain Danvers."
"Hi, name's Scott. So what brings you here? Besides me." He said with a grin and a rise of his eyebrow, as if he were flirting with the woman. "I don't think we've properly been introduced in the past, wanna sit under a tree and catch up?"
Feeling him snake an arm around her waist, Carol was rather surprised by the boldness. Gently pushing him away, Carol brushed her dress back down and crossed her arms. "I'm here to tell the Professor the invasion's been dealt with and to offer a proposal."
"Oooh, I like where this is headin."
Leaning over to whisper to Jan, Carol kept her eye on Cyclops. "A little forward isn't he?"
"Well..." Wasp winced, fumbling with her hands together. "He's been acting strange since our last meeting."
"Sorry Scott, going to have to put a rain check to... Whatever the hell this is, I need to see the professor."
"Aw come on babe, that's no fun, you know what IS fun? Hanging out with the one eyed monster, and I'm not talking about me."
Swiftly giving the man a slap across the face, Scott staggered back and breathed in hard, his chest heaving with each intake as it looked like he would go berserk. What happened instead was everyone got the shock of their lives when Scott Summers began to change right in front of them. His clothes practically exploded off his burgeoning arms and legs, growing stronger and larger by the second until they fell off him in strips and tattered cloth, his shoulders broadened and his back hunched as he grew in height to loom over the two women. Widening his stance and grunting with a deep guttural voice, his pants burst at the back to free a large and heavy tail while the front bulged obscenely until it could no longer contain the pair of bowling ball sized testicals or the throbbing erection that thumped angrily against his muscular gut. His hands and feet became clawed with sharp black talons and spines jutted down his back. With a wince his teeth grew sharp and his face became more bestial... Just as his two eyes merge4d together into a single cyclopean eyeball. When the transformation had finished, the proverbial one-eyed monster had become VERY literal and fell to all fours like some beast of burden, sniffing the air and lumbering off to another part of the garden party.
Stunned silent and looking down at her blue hand, Carol was at a loss for words.
Eyeing Rogue running up to catch up to them, Wasp waved the woman over. "Rogue! Carol and I were just catching up, and then... Cyclops, he just..."
"First thing, I'm not responsible for that!" Carol tried desperately to defend what happened, looking back down at the hand she used to slap Scott and hide it behind her back. "Second, I think we need to REALLY see Xavier, NOW!"
"Ah can see that." Answered Rogue, her attention turned to the gamma beast lumbering his way to under the shelter of a tree and sitting there to rest. "Same thing happened to Storm the other night, we haven't found the gal since. I DID find ol Charles if you wanna talk to him Carol."
Wasp sat up from her seat and snaked her arm around the Blue Shulk's arm and went with her and her kids to a gazebo at the center of the gardens. Passing by couples and groups either having conversations on picnic blankets or on chairs at the garden party, Carol looked up to find a well dressed man with a crop of hair standing while speaking to a blond woman wearing an opulent white dress and jewelry. Joining the group, Carol and Wasp's presence made the man turn and smile up at the blue skinned woman.
"Ah, welcome to the Xavier Institute Captain Danvers." Greeted Xavier, offering his hand to the surprised woman, who took and shook the hand while she squinted back at Xavier as if she didn't recognize him. "You look so much... Leaner the last time I checked up on you from afar."
"Professor?"
"Ah yes, It's the hair, I understand, I'm rather surprised by it too." Chuckled the man as he pointed at his new mop of hair. "I will admit, despite the initial chaos of the moment, gamma exposure has been a blessing in disguise. Many of my students who came to us with injuries or physical ailments have disappeared completely. Granted us all perfect health and then some."
Sitting back at his chair and crossing one leg over the other, Psylocke sat next to the man as did Emma, the trio looking up at the Blue Shulk with eager intent. "So what brings you here?"
"We have the city back under control after activating the gamma drainer, it would seem the Leader was behind the entire plot this entire time. Jen managed to toss the little gremlin out into lower orbit. His powers certainly out of range of controlling anyone ever again... That is unless someone thaws him out."
"The Leader?!" Perked up the White Queen, blinking back in surprise at the news. "I thought he had died in the explosion on the airplane, that is... What Charles explained to us after speaking telepathically with Miss Walters."
"We thought so so, seems that little cockroach is harder to kill than the Hulk himself."
"This is rather surprising to hear Captain Danvers." Answered the Professor. "I had maintained contact with Miss Walters in between bouts of keeping stability with my X-Men, I had reached out at the time you all had entered the Avengers tower and then... Nothing. I had been waiting ever since to get a reading again."
Carol retained her stoic face, crossing her arms and giving her hip a tilt. "Must have happened when things got WIERD! After the drainer went off, we discussed terms of surrender to SHIELD and we managed to rebuild the city with a little help from the Scarlet Witch and Agatha. We've come to an agreement for Manhattan, now called Gam-Hattan to be the new brain center for gamma exposed people. I'm here to let you know that a part of that agreement is that you all come with me back to the city to be relocated."
"So you want us to leave our sanctuary for YOURS?" Scoffed Emma, leaning back in her chair with her hands in her lap. "Let me guess, this was a generous offering from the human population so they can gather us up in ONE location?"
Psylocke straitened her seating position and narrowed her eyes back at the blue woman. "I don't like the idea of being bottled up for other's conveniences Carol."
"Actually it was Jen's idea, she figured an island city headed by the brightest minds could keep an eye on us and keep all of us stable."
"Even before being exposed to gamma radiation we have lived with the threat of being wiped out simply because of who and what we are for years Captain Danvers. If anything, becoming Hulks have granted us a new lease on our existence, we can survive almost anything. Even if the human governments were to make any gesture against us it would be fruitless." Standing and spreading his arms out wide to show off the garden party of mutants, Carol was given a brief look at the reality of the situation, where the entire yard was if anything a group of hulk packs making out or full on fornicating in plain sight, unabashed by the weather, environment or location. With a flick of his wrist, the illusion returned and Charles sat back down, crossing one leg over the other. "We wish only to be acknowledged that we deserve to live on our terms like any other intelligent community wishes to be. Out here we have the freedom to do that. What do you offer that compares?"
Leaning up to whisper up to her mother from behind her shoulder, Carol's daughter tried to speak as low as possible so as not to be heard. "Is he always this preachy?"
Giving her a dirty look, Carol sighed and rolled her eyes. "Look Charles, this was the agreement we gave SHIELD to KEEP THEM from coming out here and blasting your little erotic tea party to molten glass. At least having us all in Gam-Hattan we can keep an eye on each other and stem any future outbreaks or even learn MORE about our new selves. We have the Avengers and Fantastic Four on with us too, along with the Scarlet and Purple witches. Just think of what we can achieve together."
"Plus we have coffee shops!" Called out one of Carol's sons, the statement making the telepathic council's eyes light up. Looking to each other, the telepathic branch of the X-Men shared mental notes, silently having a conversation in front of Carol, something the blue skinned woman didn't approve of. Still, she had little choice but to wait on their verdict.
"Storm want to go with Blue Lady!"
Cut from their mental debate, the psychics of the X-men and Captain Marvel turned to the source of the deep, honey-smooth voice. The sight of her made Carol's eyes go wide with shock. The creature that approached looked familiar yet alien to the blue skinned woman. Her physique was tall and powerful, as mighty as the Blue Shulk used to be if not more prior to the gamma drain that diminished her size. Her body was perfectly built, with long muscular limbs, flaring hips, a narrow waist, broad shoulders and a heaving chest that would have made any other woman stand in awe or envy. She would have been confused for a goddess of old... If not for the rest of her. Jet black reptilian skin shone like snake scales in the day light, Her clawed feet dug into the grass below with each step like some kind of dinosaur, her saurian tail swinging with each flaring turn of her hip. Her crowded chest sported four breasts full as ripe water melons and stood proudly from her chest in defiance of gravity. With a tilt of her hip, she rested a clawed hand at her side and tossed her wild mane of snow white hair that reach all the way down to her lower back and flowed with the breeze, framed by two pairs of horns almost a meter in length each that curled and stuck out from her skull like some tribal headdress drew focus to her beautiful and savage looking face. A face with plump, kissable fanged lips, an almost feline like nose and white glowing eyes that drew Carol's attention to her. Tracing a clawed finger around her pointed ear, the massive, nude, gamma beast purred a soft coo and spoke, standing with the poise and grace of some jungle predator.
"Blue Lady make good deal, good deal means stronger pack, better food, better lovers... Storm want go."
"OROROE!" Gasped Emma, her hand to her mouth in surprise to hear the bestial woman speak. "You... You're still in there?"
Even Xavier was surprised, seeing his prized student speaking. "We had feared that after last night you had left us completely."
"Storm is always here." Purred the towering gamma beast, her fanged smile never leaving her lips. "Storm speak more with less, speak OLDEST language." She hinted, stroking a clawed finger down her cleavage and her abdominal muscles.
Moving up to the gazebo and coming close to Carol's personal space, Captain Marvel was **** to look up at the ebony scaled beast woman who stood a head taller than her and leered down at Carol, appraising her somewhat with her piecing eyes before turning her horned head back to the telepaths of the X-Men.
"Storm want go."
Not even bothering to wait for an answer, Stormed quickly turned away from Carol and stomped away from the gazebo to where she came from. Her long heavy tail swishing behind her with each exaggerated step. Breathing deeply and feeling a fluster in her heart after Storm left. Shaking her head from the experience, Carol pointed back to where she came in when she arrived.
"Professor, your prized student, Cyclops... He turned into the same thing she is!"
Blinking back in surprise, Xavier looked out across the garden and pressed his fingers to his brow to concentrate. There he could see the one eyed creature sitting under the shade of a tree curled up like a cat while Scott leered back at the rest of the mutants on campus.
"Hmm, that is worrisome, but not too concerning." Charles brushed the matter nonchalantly. "I can sense that he means no harm, and in time we can get a better understanding of what just happened."
"Not too concerning?! He's a monster!" Cried out Captain Marvel, her kids nodding furiously behind her at the description. "What if that happens to the rest of your X-Men?"
"Secondary and even tertiary mutations are not unheard of Captain Danvers, we will handle this personally as we have always done."
The White Queen, Psylocke, Karma and the others murmured voices of concern together before each standing up to address the Blue Shulk. Each of them looking to Xavier who made various facial expressions in their silent debate before finally relenting with a nod.
"Very well Captain Marvel, we shall come with you to this... Gam-Hattan."
Nodding, Carol looked to her kids with a smirk.
"Well kids... Looks like we've got some heavy carrying to do."
Rolling their eyes and making vivid expressions of annoyance, one of Carol's sons murmured quietly enough to not be heard out loud. "Now I know why she brought us out here..."
*
Looking out the window of her new seat of office, Jen smiled when she spotted Carol and her flying troupe of Blue Hulks carrying the X-men and their gamma colony by hand into the city. Hundreds of them dotted the evening sky as they floated overhead, landing one by one.
“Looks like they agreed to join us.” Smiled Betty, joining Jen at the window to see the hundreds of blue skinned people being guided like helicopters landing in a clearing of the park. “Good thing too, TWO hulk communes would have given the world a heart attack.”
“Hope it wasn’t TOO difficult, the X-men could get pretty stubborn.” Stepping away from the window to sit at her desk with a hand at her back to steady herself, Jen sat her pregnant frame heavily in her chair and went over a pile of papers to be filled out for the transfer of power over the city, which was now redubbed as Gam-Hattan. SHIELD had finally given Jen the thumbs up after a debate with the nation’s leadership about the situation. Almost taking a page out of John Carpenter’s play book, SHIELD was already hastily setting up checkpoints and barriers around the island of Manhattan. Making sure that no Hulk would be incentivized to leave and no one foolish enough to enter.
Feeling a series of kicks, Jen rubbed the surface of her drum tight belly. “Once everyone is settled in, we’ll have to make arrangements for trade and commerce with the outside world.”
“Who’d want to trade with an island full of millions of people suffering from radiation poisoning?” Asked Betty sardonically, resting a hand at her side as she smirked back at Jen. “We’re essentially a great big leper colony!”
“A leper colony home to the greatest inventive minds in the world, a cabal of gamma powered demons, the Fantastic Four, Avengers, X-men, and of course…” Jen retorted, counting off with her fingers as she looked up to see Betty raise her hands in defeat.
“Give it a day Betty and they’ll be tossing trucks worth of coffee beans our way to keep from going tribal again.”
“Yeah… Speaking of that…”
Looking over her shoulder to the four hulks working busily in front of their desks, they wore custom tailored suits as they either typed away at their desks or chatted to each other in between printing off reports for the two ladies. At close inspection. Looking past the clean hair cuts, reader’s glasses, and more refined mannerisms, they were the very original Hulk clones that washed up on the island with Betty and Jen from the start.
“I say, is anyone else going to the Maison Vigneronne after work?”
“I intend to yes.” Spoke up one of the Hulks, adjusting his glasses as he filled a folder and set it to the out tray at his desk. “They have two bottles available for taste testing there: the 1952 Chateau Fleur and Rose Seglar. Which do you intend to try?”
“So long as its not reminiscent of the sea water and coconut juice mixed swill we used to drink on the island I’ll be pleased.”
Shrugging, the fourth of the hulks went back to work. “The Chateau Fleur then.”
Sharing a look, Jen and Betty snickered. After everyone had been found and tended to after the gamma drain, the Shulks found their previous lovers weened of much of their gamma radiation and fed coffee just as a precaution. The results were quite surprising as Mr. Fantastic later checked their I.Q. jumped a hundred points after near chronic imbibing of the brew. So, for obvious reasons, Jen added them to her staff.
“Who knew caramel dark roast would make clones of Bruce’s Hulk sophisticated and intelligent… Must be a part of his personality he never explored.” Leaning in close to Jen’s ear, Betty whispered. “Bruce never cared for coffee; he was always a decaf man. Even before the gamma bomb. If I’d known coffee would calm him down, I’d have made the big green lug a brewer since the get go.”
“Leave it to the Leader to never realise that...” Shaking her head and smiling, Jen looked up into the evening sky where the sun was setting. “I wonder where he is now after I tossed him up into the air. Bet the smug bastard is pleased with himself.”

High over orbit of the planet, frozen in place by the freezing temperatures of the void, the Leader stared down at the Earth unblinking, unmoving. A frozen green statue in a rictus grin. From this distance, his mind control meant nothing, even without the band he had around his impressive skull, he was too far away to control anything that had a hint of gamma in it. Moving slowly around the globe, his orbit reached a point where he could see even with the naked eye the island of Gam-Hattan prospering as it shone like a green torch at night, with the rest of the nation’s yellow glow of city lights.
He wasn’t in control; he was unable to say or do a thing. But in a screwed-up sense. He got his gamma world after all.
