The punishment is the stocks! Actually... it's worse!

"I'd say that nothing less than the stockade will suffice," the madame of the St. Vendigeld fortune spoke clearly, hiding a vengeful grin behind her neat, spring green fan, unfolded now to its full width. "You have no issues with having your shameless body displayed, do you, Miss Montague?"

"The stocks?!" Ro complained, now moving in front of the captain to defend her honor. "That's barbaric! The captain isn't some criminal! Heresy is not a crime!" she protested, which sent a ripple of discontent through Guyld III's closest followers.

"Oh, but heresy in a place of worship is the greatest of sins. And a sin, if anything, is worse than a crime," the lady sighed, content in her logic. There may have been some in the audience who disagreed... but none of them had the clout to speak against such a wealthy woman of the church. She was the type who was so rich that if she pulled her funding, they'd probably all be eating stale bread at communion and exchanging their gold crosses for wooden ones.

"Hey, stand down, Ro. Now, usually it's me that's putting criminals in the stocks, but if you're saying I have to wear 'em for once, I'm not going to put up a fight. It's gonna take a lot more than throwing me out into the town square naked in some manacles to make me cry," she boasted, pressing one fist to her hip and adopting a cocky grin. "Though, I gotta say... I think it'd be more fun to see you in them! Maybe in time."

"Never," the haughty lady chuckled, though her answer had no humor in it.

"M-Mama! You can't be serious! If the knights see you've displayed their naked captain in the town square, bound like a common criminal, they're going to go ballistic!" Guyld IV protested, leaning over the railing. "You're in the wrong here!"

The haughty mother reached out to slap her daughter, only to find her hand stayed by the surprisingly strong grip of Roi, the knight's apprentice. "You dare...?" she questioned, her green eyes flashing with malice as she stared down the young lady.

"I do. You have your victory. Don't make any more of an ass of yourself," Roi warned her.

"Ha! And you shall join your captain in the stocks," Guyld III cackled, as two monks grabbed Roi around the waist and pulled her aside.

The captain cursed her bad luck at the detainment of one of her apprentices... this was going to be a lesson that Roi wasn't ready to experience. "Wait, hold up! Instead of punishing Roi, just increase my sentence. What else ya got?" she complained, placing one hand on her spatha's hilt, which caused the monks to instantly back up from where they'd crowded around her.

"Hm... A flogging?" the mother St. Vindegeld grinned, unable to fully hide her expression with that folding fan. "Yes... A public flogging in the stocks! I think that will be a very gracious way to repent!" Murmurs ripped through the crowd at this overkill suggestion for how the rude captain ought to be handled. "You're setting a fine example for all of your knights! An example of what it means for the knights to bow before the church! Oooh ho ho ho ho ho!"
