What's Next?

The Second Triumvirate

Ah yes, the Second Triumvirate. Founded following the **** of Gaius Julius Caesar, this alliance was formed between Caesar's most trusted general Marcus Antonius, fellow partisan of Caesar, Marcus Amillius Lepidus, and lastly Caesar's named heir and adopted son, Gaius Octavianus Julius Caesar. By the decree of these three men of extraordinary renown and power, the Second Triumvirate became legally institutionalized by the Roman Senate, granting full legal sanction and imperium maius over all other citizens, including politicians, magistrates, and even provincial governors and consuls. History has shown us that despite this decade's long truce, Rome can only have one singular ruler, whether by Imperium or popular vote, and as the years continued, the alliance would eventually split and fracture into a second Civil War in just as many decades. Rome needs a leader, but whose role will you play?

  • Octavian: born Gaius Octavius and adopted by legendary general Gaius Julius Caesar into the Julii Clan, the boy who would eventually become known as Augustus has only an idea of the destiny he is to fulfill, and a burning desire in his heart to not only avenge his late adoptive father but finish his work in its entirety. Your people look to you for strength and leadership in these trying times. Take the reigns of history or forever be lost to obscurity.
  • Antony: following the Triumvirate's victory over Caesar's assassins at the Battle of Philippi, the Republic was divided into three sections for each of the three Triumvirs. Octavian was given Italia, Gaul, Hispania, and several bordering provinces, Lepidus received Hispania and Western Africa, formerly the holdings of Carthage, and Antony assumed control over what was arguably the lion's share of the Republic; Greece, Asia Minor, Eastern Africa, and most coveted of all, Egypt and its fertile Nile Valley. From such a position of strength, Antony had the perfect opportunity to forge his own empire and wage a campaign of conquest reminiscent of the mighty Alexander the Great.
  • Lepidus: often portrayed as the weakest of the Triumvirate, Lepidus nonetheless was capable of glory in his own right. While he didn't wield strength like Antony or gravitas like Octavian, Lepidus remained cunning in his own right, content to let his rivals bicker with each other while he quietly consolidated power at home. Ultimately his conquest would never come to fruition but with you at the reigns, this more soft-spoken Roman General could become a **** to be reckoned with.

Choose your destiny!
