The Inner City
Inside the great wall of the city is another wall that distinguishes the inner city. The more orderly and well-lit area is very safe, and premeditated crime is almost unheard of within the inner wall, which offers constant peace of mind to those who live in the wealthy Residential District.
A crooked stone tower with structurally unsound side-towers worms its way above the roofs and looks always as if it is about to fall, to which the people living below pay no head, for the School of Magic's great tower is held aloft by both clever architecture and arcane inscriptions.
Laying stout, flat and broad below the magic tower is the Arena. Its crenelated brown stone walls exist to give the impression of a military fortress, as well as to provide sloped seating for the thousands who arrive to watch the gladiatorial games.
The Palace, which is perhaps better referred to as a fortified castle, is especially well-guarded; people say it's the only thing in the city guaranteed to have never been penetrated. It sits on an island in the middle of the river's mouth, slightly closer to the swamp than the city, its walls following the perimeter of the island. The palace is open to visitation from the public, but only if you are unarmed.
