What's Next?

The Golden Age (A more humble path A.D 85)

Bread and circuses; that was how the wealthy always pacified the poor. This theme persisted throughout every major civilization from the most ancient of peoples in Mesopotamia to the Capitalist soft dystopia of the Present Day. Lavish the masses with food, drink, and sport and they'll eat endless lies and half truths out of the palms of your hands. Certainly with the infinite powers of the Divine at your beck and call, you could opt for total control of the mighty Roman Empire however, you desired a more... simple life in comparison, awash with fame and riches of course, but without the administrative and political hogwash of governing a nation that dominated a full third of the world's population.

Your mind swims with images of blood, sand, and sex. From your early teens, you were fascinated by the concept of gladiators and their **** games. Nevermind professional boxing and UFC competitions from your old home. There was no sense of danger that sent fight-or-flight adrenaline spikes through the bodies of the combatants in these bouts, nor could any contractor claim complete and total ownership of their fighters. No, your path was clear to you. You desired to become a world renowned Lanista, training champion after champion to be immortalized in the Flavian Amphitheatre, or otherwise known as the mighty Colosseum of Rome. But the road to glory was a violent path paved with the vanquished. Your gladiators would need an ideal school, a Ludus, to learn, train, and grow into titans worthy of song. But where to set up shop?

  • City-centre, Rome: Conveniently located near the Colosseum and at the center of Rome's bustling markets touting wares form all corners of the world, an urban villa would be perfect for gladiator training and entertaining the nobility alike.
  • Island retreat, four miles off the coast of Italia: Warm Mediterranean sun and crisp open air awaited you, far from the prying eyes of the nosey Roman nobility. Here you'd be free to train and mold your fighters into your desired image without interruption.
  • Vesuvius, forged by fire: A mountain fortress upon the infamous volcano that wiped the city of Pompeii and nearby local towns off the map not six years prior would not only give an air of menacing mysticism to your fighters, but also pave the way for you to rebuild the long lost city in your image.
  • Germanica, outskirts of Roman power: Shrouded in mizzle, drizzle, and supernatural fogs powered by Pagan worship, the forests of the Rhine and by extension, the Teutoberg Forest, would give you easy access to some truly ferocious and barbaric fighters. And who knows? Maybe you would even succeed where Augustus had failed and bring these tribes to heel?

Each of these choices and many more that would float into your mind were purely for aesthetic satisfaction, of course. Your Godly prowess would completely eliminate the logistical challenges of furnishing your Ludus, and feeding and supplying your Gladiators. Ultimately, the limits presented to you were based solely on your imagination. Go now! The road to glory awaits you!

Choose your path, Lanista!
