The Freshman

The night air chilled Yuki to the bones. It wasn't THAT cold out, but it didn't matter. Yuki was always cold. Scrawny and cold.

The daughter of first generation Japanese immigrants, Yuki Tano was always a child of two world, split between the realm of her parents and the realm of her classmates. It made for an upbringing that was at times difficult. She loved where she came from, her family roots. It was just the awkward little duckling she had become that was a problem.

Yuki had just finished Topics in American History, a 101 course to fulfill her humanities credit. It was dry and long, but she liked her teacher alright. Professor Davidson was a kind soul and seemed to pity the quiet little freshman at times.

Now, Yuki was off to her dorm and her roommate, Eleanor.

Eleanor was by far the best thing about college. A fellow Otaku, Eleanor-or El- had quickly become one of Yuki's closest friends. With the weekend looming, Yuki expected a night filled with gaming and anime.

The campus was dead. The next three hours were set aside for pregaming and dorm-room shenanigans. As a result, Yuki made her treck in the darkness alone. She didn't notice the shadowy figure that fell in behind her as she walked through the arch of the history & philosophy pavilion.
