No one knows how old it is. The first record appeared around 57 AD: A member of Nero's court refers to a "tainted scroll" capable of bending the wills of those around it to animalistic desires.

Throughout the Middle Ages, the book appeared across Western Europe. However, its appearance and abilities varied from place to place. Consistent was its ability to induce lustful desires in those that used it.

The book's first appearance in America comes from the recovered diary of Richard Swanpole of Darrow, a small Puritan colony in what is now Northern Massachusetts. Swanpole remarks that a local woman was found with the book, using it corrupt her fellow maidens to the "lust of the devil". Swanpole had no idea where the book came from. Every member of the Darrow colony disappeared shortly afterwards.

The book's laws and restrictions are fluid. It's connection to the realm known by the Christian bible as "Hell" is unquestioned. No one can predict how this wicked instrument will respond to any group or individual. Only experience can tell.

Now the book has surfaced again, coming to a small Northern Californian town an hour outside of San Francisco. It finds itself on the shelves of Unicorn Used Books, the town's last independent bookstore.

Who will the book find?
