'You know, this is such a coincidence, I was just thinking the same thing,' you jokingly tell her, looking into her soft, brown eyes. 'But I hope you're not going soft on me, Miss Noble.'

Alice laughs. 'Well, I won't be Miss Noble for long anymore.' She looks at you seriously again.

Your heart sinks again. 'Wait, what do you mean?' you ask, not wanting the answer to be what you think it's going to be.

'Well, I'm engaged, Robbie, duh...' she says, trying to lighten the mood, after this news. 'Didn't I tell you?'

'No, you said you were going to move in with your boyfriend, not that you're getting married too...'

'Well, I am...' she says, smiling a little awkwardly. 'But we haven't set a date yet.'

'But, you don't have a ring!' you protest a little too harshly, looking at both her hands.

'Well, Pascal doesn't really have the money for that now. But he promised he will get one.'

'Right,' you say, taking another puff of the joint before giving it back to Alice. 'Well, this seems very serious. When can I meet the lucky fellow?'

'You met him already, he was in our high school, remember? Pascal VanDerBilt.'

You fake being surprised. 'Oooh, yeah, that guy? I don't remember you being close back then?'

'No, well, we met hit it off after school was done,' Alice explains. 'He was at this town festival, and him and his friends started talking to me and my friends there. We were all pretty drunk, but I really started liking him. I thought he was a bit of a douchebag at school, but it turned out that he was actually a really nice guy. To me anyway. And you know I have a little bit of a fetish right? So anyway...'

'No, hang on, what fetish do you have?' you ask. 'You never told me about a fetish.'

'Well, it's not really a fetish... Just a weak spot... you know, you remember all those posters in my bedroom when I was a teenager?'

'You mean like the boybands and stuff?'

'Well... yes and no...' Alice is blushing a little now. 'You know... just very muscular guys... and you know... well endowed?'

You can't help but laugh. 'Yeah, alright, fair enough...'

'So, anyway, one thing led to another...' she continues. 'And I heard girls at school talk about Pascal's... penis... and I was curious. So I went home with him that night. Afterwards we went on a few dates, and just, you know, rolled into a relationship.'

'Wow, Noble, I would never have guessed,' you smile, trying to make light of your heartbreak. 'But I can't help but feel... What you're describing sounds exactly like me.'

Alice burst out laughing. 'Is that a little jealousy I notice there, Collin?'

'No... what do you mean? I'm just sayi -'

'It's alright, Robbie, we were best friends in high school,' Alice says meaningfully. 'It's only natural that we would get a little crush on each other. I know I had a crush on you back then, I was heartbroken when you got into a relationships with all these other girls. I was heartbroken when you suddenly dated Brooke, you remember? What a bitch...'

'Well...' you start, but Alice cuts you off.

'She cheated on you, Robbie, don't try to sugar coat it. But anyway...' she takes a deep puff from the joint. 'I was kind of in love with you back then, and you basically ignored me in that way. But that's okay, everything worked out for me. As it did for you. Well... it didn't work out now, but it will work out for you, I'm sure. And you know, I'm totally over it, as should you be. The time for us has passed.'

'I just want you to be happy, Alice,' you tell her. 'And if I'm honest, of course I felt something for you too. I was just always too scared to ruin our friendship, you know? Anyway, that's all behind us now, I guess.'

'Yeah, exactly,' she agrees. 'That's all in the past.'

It feels great getting all of this of your chest, but for some reason something still feels wrong. You don't want to leave it there. You feel like you and her are meant to be together in some way, anything else would be an injustice to your romantic life. Especially her being with that douchebag Pascal, that wasn't right. He was always such an asshole to you in school, and you saw him as the typical, stupid jock. You're sure he doesn't remember you at all, but you can't help but feel that **** is the only thing you want in life right now.

Ugh... feelings, right?
