Chapter 12 by cphi cphi

How does she respond...

She wants some father-daughter time.

"I don't really want to... can I sit with you while you work out?"
{if RileyDaddyFan = 1
} You hesitate a little. You want nothing more than to spend time together with Riley, but you are worried about stoking that taboo obsession. {if RileyPool = 1
}That incident in the pool... was way over the line, but you hope the **** was a factor there.
"That depends, baby. Are you going to behave yourself...?"
Riley blushes. "I'm sorry about the pool. I... I don't know what's wrong with me..."
"Riley... there's nothing wrong with you."
"When... when Matt came to visit in March... we were... you know..." she looks down... "and I said "daddy" when I...." She squirms. "He didn't like that. Most guys like that kind of thing, but he told me it sounded 'too real.' I think that's the real reason he...." She looks up with tears. "I don't know what to do! I didn't ask for these thoughts, daddy." She claps a hand over her mouth.
"It's okay, baby." You hold her tightly. Maybe some distance is what she needs... but you can't make yourself do that. She's the most important person in your life, besides Jenna. "Come sit with me. We'll just listen to music and put that stuff out of your head."
"O...ok." {else
}"Sure, honey. You can spot me." You grin as you say it.
"It really does show...your effort, I mean." She strokes your bicep. "I'm sure mom appreciates it..."
"I wanted to feel better and look better, and your mom's been very encouraging."{endif

}"Yeah, honey, that sounds great. Do you think Allison will be okay by herself?"
Riley chuckles as you start heading towards the garage. "Oh, don't worry about her. She can keep herself occupied." A knowing smile crosses Riley's lips, and piques your curiosity, but you decide not to press the issue. {endif

For the next 45 minutes or so, you listen to music, with Riley balanced on an old barstool with cracked leather, and you only half-heartedly doing legwork. You spend most of the time talking about music, cars, and Riley's summer plans. She wants to take a family trip somewhere: New York City, or the Grand Canyon, or maybe Napa Valley wine country. They all sound like good ideas.

You head inside, sweaty and tired, and you are treated to the adorable scene of Allison, passed out and drooling on the couch. Riley shakes her awake, and the three of you decide to play cards until around 11:15, when both girls look like they're going to fall asleep at the table. It's been a long day for both, and you coax them into their room, where they each lay down, putting on music and chatting, and insisting they aren't tired.
"Good night, ladies."
As you leave them, the headlights of an Uber swing into the driveway. You suddenly realize that Jack never returned after dropping the girls off. Where had he disappeared to?
No matter. You head out to greet the two tipsy, stumbling ladies.
