Chapter 19 by TheSpectator TheSpectator

Does Scarlet take the offer?

She DOES.

"I hope I'm not getting myself killed here for you, Warren." She sighs, looking down finally. "Fuck it. Yeah. I'll help you."

You knit your brows at her. Asking her if she's sure. Her face wrinkled with disgust in response. "Listen to me. I said I was going to do it, didn't I? Now you're gonna fill me in on more details here or should we wait for some time that's better?"

"Ah...We'll have to wait for a little bit. Until then, you can do whatever you please. You deserve at least a little bit of rest for what happened back in Montana. I don't want to stress you out or to get you feeling too...weak or bothered." You tell her, making her expression lighten somewhat.

"Thanks, Warren. I'll catch you when you get back from your babysitting gig tomorrow ."

"Ah, yeah sure." You quickly reply. Now that Scarlet is closing off, there's no point in keeping her away from the contract you just signed her to. "Thanks. Don't be afraid to find me even while I am working. I need to find out some of the-"

Scarlet shoots a hand out. "Don't tell me anything more." She looks around. "Especially out in public."

You felt your face redden. What a rookie mistake!

"I'll see what I can find out over night, but that's all I'll say." She looks a little pale, perhaps even a little guilty to turncoat so quickly after terminating her last contract. "Have a good night, Warren."

...

As you turn in, you lay flat on your back and stare at the ceiling. How was this going to play out? Was it smart to do your own side business while working with Mikka? Were you in too deep to back out of anything Mikka had already done? What happened to Sachio-

"This really isn't me," you murmured, flipping to your side. You exhaled and stared at the blinds of your window. "The warm light coming from the barely-powered building once again made the city look like it was burning. This time, you weren't fooled to check the condition. All this stress was starting to really bear down on you. You craned your neck and swung your legs off the bed to go to the bathroom.

After rinsing your face and draining your bladder, you sat at the on the foot of your bed in an attempt to empty your mind of every thought possible, Sachio related or not. You felt too distracted to do anything even slightly productive. You field stripped your gear, organized your clothes, exercised and even look out at the city. You finally sat on one of the chairs. It was almost 1:30 in the morning. "Maybe Sasha is awake? That'd get me to focus on something else."

What do you do?
