She’s caught in a summoning circle

Layliel opened her eyes stared directly into the piercing green eyes of Riley Nesbit. Startled, Layliel stumbled backwards and immediately doubled over in pain as her wings crushed against a powerful wall of energy.

“Jesus,” Riley said.

“Hey! Don’t use the lord’s name in vain!” Layliel cried.

“That’s what you’re worried about, demon?”

“Demon!?”

Layliel’s large eyes bulged at this. The accusation would have made her burst out in laughter if this wasn’t such an urgent moment.

“You are bound now. You won’t be harming this household. I knew what you were when I saw the book my mom brought home. The book you were hiding in!” Riley sneered.

“Um,” Layliel tried to interject.

Riley cut her off.

“Shut up! I’m going to banish you to hell and burn that goddamn book. My mom might be a hoity toity church lady, but I’m not going to let an impure demon ruin her life!”

“But—“

“You’re a demon, why should I let you talk? You aren’t what I was expecting to see. I was expecting horns and fangs. Maybe red eyes. You’re actually kind of cute, but I know it’s just a ruse to cover the wickedness in your essence!”

“There’s just one problem,” Layliel said.

“What demon? Are you mad that I, Riley Nesbit, a humble witch of the order of Dionysus, captured a grave and powerful infernal beast such as yourself?”

“Well I am mad, but I’m not a demon.”

Layliel wriggled her large, dove-like wings.

“I’m an angel.”

Riley’s eyes widened as she heard this.

“Bullshit! You’re lying, demon.”

Suddenly, they both heard a loud moan emanate from a couple rooms over. It was clearly Mary Nesbit.

“You were right about the book,” Layliel said. “But your dumb spell caught me instead!”

Another groan of what sounded like intense pleasure and the sound of sudden, rapid footsteps met their ears. Whatever was happening to Riley's Mother was clearly very intense.

“What did you do to her?” Riley cried.

“Nothing! I’m her gosh darn guardian angel and I was trying to protect her from that evil book. Nice going, witch-girl!”

“Oh fuck,” Riley said.

There were more footsteps. Mary Nesbit seemed to run down the stairs and out the front door.

“Riley, you need to let me go!” Layliel screamed.

“You know my name?” Riley said, looking like a deer in the headlights.

“Pay attention. I need you to free me.”

“I don’t know how! I just know the banishing spell. It sends you to hell.”

Layliel whimpered, verging on complete panic.

“No! Don’t do that. Whatever you do, do not send me there!”

“But what if you’re a demon?”

“I’m a petite blonde girl with wings and a halo!”

“You could be fooling me.”

“They’re going to kill me, why did I materialize.”

Riley grumbled and grabbed a stack of printed papers from her desk. She desperately sorted through what Layliel assumed were collections of spells.

“Where did you get these spells?” Layliel asked.

“The internet, where else would I get them?”

“You just found them?”

“Yeah.”

“We are so behind the curb. I hate technology. Now let me out!”

Riley finally seemed to find the right spell.

“I’m trusting you,” she told the angel, her eyes stern and level. This was a whole other side to the girl Layliel had watched grow up.

“I promise I will save your mother.”

Riley nodded and began to chant. The air filled with magical energy.
