Chapter 8 by fakestdragon fakestdragon

What job does she get?

Samus decides to become a teacher

Thinking back through her new past memories, Samus learned that in this reality she originally had plans in becoming a math teacher, eager to teach young minds about a subject that many usually found to be quite challenging. She originally had withheld in pursuing this career when she had become pregnant, but had always thought back on becoming a teacher after the children had grown.

Deciding that since she had the knowledge, experience, as well as the degree that would help her with obtaining such a career, Samus decided she would fulfill this version of herself's dream of becoming a teacher. It certainly would be easier than trying to become something like a police officer, as where she obtained her combat experience from would probably come into question, and Samus wasn't even sure if she could move around like she used to in her new, slightly older body.

With her mind made up, Samus went to the office room of the house to use the computer to begin searching for any nearby teaching positions. As she entered the small office room and sat in the chair, she was reminded of her late husband who often spent long afternoons working on paperwork in this same office, and how she would bring him his meals and offer him company during those dull times of work.

Shaking her head, Samus cleared her thoughts of Ethan, trying to make sure she didn't start crying again. Instead she turned to the computer and logged on, and began the process of pulling up the web browser and starting to search for work.

It didn't take Samus long to find an available position, but unfortunately it was the only position available nearby as well. There was a highschool nearby that recently had their Senior math teacher retire after several long years of service, and as it was currently nearing the end of Summer, they were looking for anyone with the right qualifications to fill the roll.

Samus contemplated on the job for a moment. She'd rather teach younger minds, as they were less rowdy and she had more experience with them due to her own two children. However she also knew she had the qualifications for the job, with the calculations of algebra and calculus flying through her mind like a second thought. Besides, she couldn't exactly be picky, as she did have to think about her kids as well. And she was certain that high schoolers couldn't be all that bad. After all, if she could lead several animals through a planet moments before it exploded, how hard could teaching some high schoolers be?

Her mind made up, Samus went through the application process. She had to provide her college degree as well as a resume, but she managed to find those documents quickly within a drawer in the office. Not long after she applied, she was sent an email from the principal of the school and was asked to come in for an interview the following day.

That night, while eating dinner with her kids, who were still quiet after about two weeks since the funeral, Samus began to explain to them that she was going to be taking a teaching position. "It'll be at one of the nearby highschools, not too far away. I believe that it's even in your district, so in a few years it's entirely possible that I could end up being your teacher. This does mean that I will be home a little later during the week, but I should be home in time to make dinner still."

The kids nodded, poking at their plates slightly disinterested. Samus sighed, uncertain what she should do. "Listen, kids, I know this is hard, but we have to push through this chapter of our lives if things are going to get any better. With my new job I'm not going to be around all the time. This means that you two need to look after each other, and accept that you'll have some new responsibilities. But most importantly, don't forget that we still have each other, okay?"

Sara and James nodded, though both had tears building up in their eyes. Samus wasn't sure if she had done the right thing being so blunt with them, but the only way they were going to get through this hardship was if they stayed together and realized that they still had each other.

"Now, when dinner's over, how about I rent a movie and we take it easy tonight, okay?" She asked. The children nodded, looking a bit better now, and together they all finished eating dinner.

After dishes were washed and leftovers were stored away in the fridge, Samus rented a popular new superhero movie and sat down on the couch to enjoy the evening with her children, who seemed to appreciate it as they cuddled on each side of her for the length of the film.

The next day Samus had gotten dressed up for her interview. She had found some old clothes that were originally purchased for her teaching career stored away in the back of the closet, and was happy to find that they still fit. Well, mostly fit. The knee length grey skirt she was wearing was a little tight around her large thighs and showed off her butt somewhat. The white blouse she was wearing was a bit tight as well, especially around her breasts, as the edges of the bra she was wearing were pressed against it a little tightly, resulting in the shape of the bra to press and be seen through the blouse. The collar somewhat tight as a result, leaving Samus to have to unbutton the top two buttons, leaving a little cleavage exposed to anyone who looked her way.

Unfortunately Samus didn't have much else that could be used for an interview, leaving her to make a mental note to buy new clothes later. Putting on a light blue jacket that had the same color of her old suit, Samus went to the front door and prepared to leave. As she got ready to leave, she saw her children playing with the ping pong table they had in a side entertainment room. Samus smiled softly at the sight, glad to see they were back to competing with each other again. "Kids, I'm getting ready to head out to my interview. I should be back in hour at most probably, so look after the house while I'm gone."

James turned to Samus and nodded, a small grin on his face. "Okay mom, see you in a bit." However, while he was distracted, Sara had smacked the ping pong ball back towards him, making it fly past his head as a result. "Hey, that doesn't count!"

"It's not my fault you got distracted! And good luck on your interview mom." Sara said, never turning her attention away from the ping pong table.

Samus smiled at the two, still getting pleasant flutters in her stomach every time they called her "mom". Confidant that they would be fine by themselves, Samus turned and headed out the front door, ready to head to her interview.

After a short five minute drive, Samus found herself in front of Knightview Highschool. It was a nice looking building, appearing to have been built within the last few years at least and was a decent size for a highschool. Finding a parking spot was easy, as it was still summer and classes weren't in session yet. There were still a few other cars around, which Samus could only assume was a few of the other teachers, as well as the principal who she was meeting today.

Going through the front doors, Samus found herself in the central area of the school that also functioned as the cafeteria. She could see that the school had two floors and several connecting hallways, but she instead turned her attention to her immediate right, where the front office of the school was located. As she peered over the front desk of the office, she saw that the lights were on, but no one appeared to be around. "Um, hello?" Samus called out.

Samus heard the creaking of a chair in a nearby room in the office, and not a moment later did a man poke his head out through the doorway. He turned his attention to Samus, his eyes lighting up a bit. "Ah, you must be the one who applied for the teaching job. Mrs. Prince, correct?"

Samus was only confused for a second before she remembered that Ethan's last name had been Prince, and that she had accepted it as her own when they were married. "Ah, yes, that's me." Samus said. A small part of her felt she should correct him, as she was technically only a "Ms." now, but she couldn't bring herself to do so.

The man nodded, before gesturing for her to follow him. "Come on in then to my office, and we'll talk about the job. Just go through that side door around the desk." He said before disappearing back into his office.

Following the man's instructions, Samus went around and entered his office. It was a small room, with a desk, computer, a few comfortable looking chairs on either side, as well as a small shelf that housed several different kinds of books. However the walls were filled nearly to the brim with all types of awards and pictures, and though most of the awards were for the school, many of the pictures centered on the principal, though they did include other people such as different sport teams and who Samus could only assume were other members of staff.

Taking a seat, Samus turned to the principal to finally get a good look at him. He was an older man, possibly around her age if not a year or two older, possibly being in his late thirties. He had a decent build, but didn't have much muscle build. He had brown combed hair and lightly tanned skin, and he stared at her with dark brown eyes that seemed to be analyzing her. At first she felt mildly offended, but she realized he was probably just trying to get an idea of who he was meeting as well.

"Well Mrs. Prince, my name is Mr. Ledges, but feel free to call me Eren. I am the principal of Knightview High, and I understand that you are interested in the open Senior math position we have available, correct?" He asked.

Samus nodded. "Yes. I've always been interested in teaching, and with certain... circumstances as of late, I've had to seek a job. Your school had the most promising position, which is why I applied."

Eren nodded, turning to his computer. "Ah, yes. I did notice that on your resume that you haven't had a job in several years. Why is it that now you've decided to seek a position in teaching, if you don't mind me asking?"

Samus frowned, a little upset from the question, but decided to answer anyway. "My husband passed away not too long ago. I have to provide for my children, so I am looking for a job that won't take me too far away from them as well."

Eren looked a bit surprised, sitting up straighter and brushing his hair away from his face, looking somewhat embarrassed. "Ah, my apologies, and I'm sorry for your loss. I didn't mean to upset you."

Trying to make himself look a bit more professional, Eren began to explain all of the requirements the job would entail, as well as asked some questions that about Samus' knowledge and abilities in teaching. Answering the best she could, Samus spoke with the principal for well over half an hour as she was interviewed.

When the interview had been concluded, Eren began typing away at his computer for a bit, leaving Samus to sit uncomfortably in the chair for a few minutes, left wondering if she got the job or not.

Does Samus get the job?
