Reflections (Skylar POV)
The last few days had been an absolute whirlwind of emotions and new life developments for Skylar.
First and foremost, she had finally accepted within herself that she was falling for her friends in the guild. She’d accepted it and decided to try to pursue it, see what would happen. So far it had turned out to be one of the best decisions of her life. Despite everything else that had happened, she was still pretty much the happiest she’d ever been in her life.
Her date with Gemma had confirmed what she had already suspected: that she loved her. She loved Gemma and she loved her girlfriends. Becoming one of them was an easy choice. They had all the same goals and values. They all wanted the same things. And the sex…Gaia, the sex…
She still shuddered with lust when she remembered her first time with them, and the few times subsequent. They hadn’t had many opportunities to have sex but when they did, she loved every second of it. They had treated her with such care and love, yet such lewdness, and the pleasure was indescribable.
She fucking loved them, she loved fucking them, and she was so ridiculously happy with her new relationship that she couldn’t contain herself and started humming as she thought it over. They weren’t perfect of course, they were people, and nobody was perfect. All three of them had their flaws.
Mia could be overconfident. Ivy was naive, and Gemma expected too much of herself. They were doing the best they could though and Skylar respected that. They were a far cry from the types of people she had known in high school, and she would be forever grateful to them for prying her out of her shell. No, they weren’t perfect, but they seemed to be perfect for her.
Then that fateful Saturday had come along and threatened everything for her. It had only been three days and the umbramancer was sure it would take a little longer than that for them to shake it off. It was a very close call after all. Skylar had already known the conditions most abyssals lived under and she believed it was good that her girlfriends now knew too.
Going into the city where they had specifically been told dangerous people would be and just checking for random barriers was never a smart strategy, and Gemma had said so herself before they went. Not checking with Olivia was an oversight, but one they’d all made. They were still learning. Besides, they were still alive and unharmed. That’s what mattered.
Ultimately, despite the disastrous trip into the city, they had got what they went for. They knew a lot better now what they were up against. And how difficult it was going to be to get to a point where they could actually win against it. That hulking man in the black suit, they didn’t know who he was. There may be even more powerful people around Sydney.
It would be a while before they had to contend with them though. They were safe in Gemma’s kingdom. Nobody could touch them in their new home, something Skylar was also incredibly grateful for. Saturday night had been a really hard night, with the four of them still dealing with the shock of almost falling victim to a gang, and Mia getting kicked out.
It definitely didn’t help that a gang broke into Gemma’s apartment that night. But they had pushed on, and for surviving it all, Gaia gave them a break. She gave Gemma access to their new home, and suddenly things looked up. They had a safe place where nobody could touch them. They’d gotten assurance of that from Elsa, a Fateweaver.
Elsa was cute, but Skylar would wait for a bit and reserve her judgement. Her passion for Fateweaving was clear and adorable, but they didn’t much know her. Her girlfriends intended to get closer with her, and the umbramancer was happy with that idea. She would just be the one to watch for anything off about her. She loved what she had, and wanted to protect it the best she could.
After Elsa had gone home, Mia had brought her friend Paige over. She knew she could trust Paige a little more simply because Mia had known Paige for a few weeks and hung out with her a few times. That didn’t mean Skylar wasn’t still careful, she was just less careful around the gothic terramancer than she was around Elsa.
Paige did seem cool though. She was also absolutely adorable. The way she blushed every time one of them so much as looked at her made the umbramancer want to hold her tight and compliment her until she hid her face behind her hands. She would bide her time though. Maybe it would happen, maybe it wouldn’t.
She was happy either way. Despite the setbacks they had endured, she had faith that they would overcome things. Hell, she felt like they already had. They’d beaten the odds. Most people didn’t get a safe place like this, but they had. Skylar had about moved in by this point, and she did not regret it in the slightest. She loved her life.
In addition to everything, they had gotten pets. Ivy and Gemma had adopted kittens, Sol and Luna. She saw how happy they were and had thought, why not get herself something similar? So she’d spent a morning coaxing a wolf out of the woods, and eventually, bonding with him. She’d named it Dave on a whim, and she couldn’t be more delighted.
She hummed happily as she played with Dave, laughing at his enthusiasm for the simple game of fetch. She threw the ball and he raced after it. He was always careful not to knock into any of the furniture though. He was more intelligent than one might first think.
She heard footsteps behind her and turned to see Mia coming to check on her. “Hey love.” The umbramancer greeted, smiling broadly. Her girlfriend beamed back at her. “Hey honey! How’s Dave?” The aeromancer asked. Skylar turned to her pet wolf and giggled as she saw his wagging tail. “He’s happy. And so am I.”
Mia sat down next to Skylar and pulled her into a loving kiss. The two of them shared the moment of intimacy before separating and holding each other contentedly. “I’m glad you’re happy. You deserve it.” Mia said, kissing her on the cheek. Skylar blushed slightly. She didn’t think she’d ever get used to being affectionate with her girlfriends.
“We’re gonna go back into a dungeon soon, before Paige gets here. Are you ready?” The lithe blonde woman asked. “Yeah about ready. Still have to put on that new armour, but otherwise I’m good to go.” “You look hot in that by the way. The colours really suit your powers. And your personality too.” Mia giggled.
“Hey!” Skylar said, and Mia cackled happily. The maiden of shadow shook her head, throwing the ball for Dave to fetch again. “Hey Mia?” She asked. “Yeah hun?” Mia answered. “Please don’t get cocky.” Skylar said, patting Dave as he returned the ball to her. Her girlfriend cocked her head to the side. “What do you mean?”
“At lunch, you said your dad was holding you back. You said that we’ll be able to win against them in no time. Please don’t underestimate them.” Skylar said. Mia shook her head. “I’m not underestimating them. I’m also not underestimating us. I know in my heart that we can win. We’ll overthrow Mathias and Sydney will be a better place.”
“If Mathias is like you describe him, he could be even more powerful than the man in the black suit.” Skylar pointed out. Mia shrugged. “Maybe. We’ll beat him either way.” She said confidently. The umbramancer touched her girlfriend’s arm. “Please be careful. I love you and I care about you. We all do. We have to be careful, because they are still a lot more powerful than us.”
“Thank you Skylar. I love you too. I’ll be careful babe, I promise.” Mia replied. “You better be.” The maiden of shadow joked, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend and cuddling her tightly. They separated and stood up, and Skylar began to put on the dark coloured armour Gemma’s ridiculous ability had generated for her. She still almost couldn’t believe how powerful her girlfriend was, but the results were undeniable.
Skylar’s lack of power in comparison to her girlfriends was a sore spot for her. The shadow elemental armour had definitely helped her survivability in these dungeons, but she had absolutely no idea how long she could keep up. She would push on her best though.
Gemma had talked about potentially finding a solution with the mark of love. It already allowed The Gamer to share one of her abilities, so why not all of them? Skylar had no idea about how feasible that was, being able to give somebody a higher potential power level was a ludicrous ability. But if anybody could do it, she figured Gemma probably could.
