Reassurance

As the night went on, Spencer noticed that something had put an unusual damper on Dani's bubbly personality. He could tell something was plaguing her mind, but he had a feeling he'd only get answers when they were alone in bed. Still, his parents seemed to enjoy her company enough, which brought him some relief. When the night came to an end, he laid next to Danielle in bed. After kissing her on the cheek, he asked "You okay?"

"Yeah. Things just got a little awkward. That's all."

"How so?"

"I think your parents didn't take me moving in that well."

"I mean it's a bit of a surprise for them. I should've told them earlier to be honest."

"You don't think we're moving too fast?"

"Not at all. I think that's just how things lined up with your work and all that. We both needed a change and we found it." Spencer kissed Dani on the cheek before wrapping his arm around her.

"Yeah... I'm just a bit... I dunno..."

"That's alright. It won't take them long to realize what an amazing woman you are."

Dani chuckled slightly as Spencer planted another kiss on her cheek.

"You still the best thing to happen to me since moving to Avonwick."

Rolling over, Dani faced Spencer with the ear to ear smile on her face. "And your the best thing to happen to me in a long time."

"I mean it's my fault for not making a move sooner. See it's all my fault?"

Dani chuckled for a second. "You had your reasons."

Spencer nodded, knowing what Dani meant. "Well, it worked out in the end I guess."

"Guess it did." Dani flashed a smile. "Night Spencer."

"Night."

After one last kiss, Spencer laid back and closed his eyes, thinking of his late wife. The last few things he'd said to Dani had ended up as a stinging reminder of Kirstin. Part of him would always miss her, but the rest of him felt she'd accept his new life with Dani, and that was reassurance enough.
