In Her Element

Spencer woke up and gave Dani a kiss on the cheek. Despite this, she remained asleep, so Spencer decided to get dress and head out into his living room. That's where he finds his mother, drinking a coffee. Her smile doesn't prevent him from being reminded by Dani's comments last night.

"Good morning." She says.

"Morning." He sat down, wondering if Kathy would bring up Dani moving in.

"Have a good sleep?"

"Sure did. How do you feel about some breakfast?"

"You wanna wait for the others?"

"There's got to be some reward for waking up early, right?"

Kathy shrugged as Spencer headed to the kitchen area. As he started cooking, he waited for Kathy to bring up Danielle and the fact she's already moved in. For him, it became the elephant in the room. Then again, part of him could sympathize with their apprehension. They witnessed just about every step of his journey of losing Kirstin, so any 'odd' behavior would seem like a red flag to them.

His father then entered the room, making the elephant grow. To his relief, his father said "Mhmm, smells nice. Whatcha cooking?"

"Oh, just bacon and eggs."

"Nothing wrong with a classic son."

Soon enough, both Amy and Dani came out of hibernation and into the welcoming smell of a cooked breakfast. As the five ate, Kathy asked "So, any plans for the day?"

"Well, I was hoping it wouldn't be too cold outside. Maybe we could go out somewhere?"

"Sure. Anything new in Avonwick?"

"Not really, but I figure we could get out of the house and go to the Carter Trail?"

"Why not? Not like we get to see the countryside that much these days."

Around lunchtime, the five walked down the Carter Trail. Spencer looked to the camera hanging around Amy's neck. He'd hoped their outing would put Danielle in her element, with the way she had been educating Amy in her new hobby.

He knew his parents wouldn't appreciate a lengthy walk, so he led them all to the nearest park bench. As they sat down to eat, Dani said "How about you take a photo of your grandparents?"

"Okay." Amy replied.

"How do you want us?" Kathy asked.

Kathy and Glenn huddled together and smile before Amy took the photo. Once done, Amy looked at her picture.

"Can we see it?" Glenn says.

"Sure."

With a smile, Amy showed off the photo she'd just taken.

"Very nice. We might have to take this little photographer on our next holiday." Kathy said.

Amy then showed Spencer and Dani, who both gave their approval. Spencer then got to serving up lunch, as Kathy asked "So when did you pick up photography?"

"A few years ago." Dani said. "I needed a hobby and I was always interested, you know?"

"Gotta pass the time somehow, right?"

"Yeah. I mean it comes in handy for events too."

"Of course."

The five proceeded to eat. If there was any tension between his parents and his girlfriend, it certainly didn't surface. Once they'd eaten, they agreed to spend the rest of the day indoors. When it came time to sort out dinner, Spencer made sure to inlist Danielle's help, hoping to demonstrate she was willing to pull her weight. After the hot meal, Glenn and Kathy decided it was time to leave.

Out on the front porch, Glenn said "Well, it was lovely meeting you Dani."

"You too. You'll have to come over again." Dani replied.

"Hopefully. Especially now someone's starting to learn how to cook."

Spencer chuckled at the jab, before saying "Yeah. See you again."

"Bye Dear." Kathy said. Spencer and Dani watched the two get in their car and leave, waving goodbye as they did so. Spencer hoped the day had at put them a bit more at ease when it came to his new love, but he knew there was no real way of telling. Still, he had found happiness with Dani, and was certain his parents would come around soon enough.
