Chapter 8 by 24ward 24ward

Which path do you choose?

Go south to the river

You have been sufficiently traumatized by strange creatures in your journey to decide to leave the fetid swamp in favor of the safety and serenity of the White River environs. After studying your map, you set off travelling south. Throughout the day as you travel gradually uphill, the ground becomes less soggy and the vegetation more robust, until eventually the swamp has given way to forests and meadows. The sun is setting when you reach what you believe to be the White River itself, which originates high in the Dragon's Spines and empties out to sea, not much further south from your present location.

Exhausted from your journey and relieved to be in a more hospitable location, you drink deeply of the clear water, and set about foraging some strange berries and fruits from nearby shrubs. During your gathering, you hear the sound of rushing water. Stepping through the underbrush and into a clearing, you are startled to see a waterfall tumbling down a rock-face. You also spy a stately manor house perched on the hill some distance away. Finally, from your vantage point you see that the coast itself is not far from your current location, at the bottom of the steep decline.

You consider making your way down the hill to the coast, where maybe you can find a nearby town, or heading up the hill toward the manor house. Or maybe you'll just stay here, have a swim and get clean for once.

What do you do?
