Ariana doesn't cancel her date

You arrive home but Ariana isn't here, which isn't unusual. Sometimes you get out of work before she does, so when you get home you start getting dinner ready. She comes home not long after and greets you with a cold stare. It looks like you don't get any brownie points for doing what you would have normally done anyway.

You think about telling your wife right away but before you get the chance she tells you she's going to take a shower while you make dinner. Rather than irritate her further, you obediently comply and continue making food while she gets washed and cleaned up. By the time she's done, she comes down, dressed in casual slacks and a tee, and you eat dinner together. The atmosphere during dinner is heavy and tense but you don't think its the right conversation to breach while eating.

After dinner, she gets up, intent of heading into the living room and leaving you to clean up the dishes but you call out to stop her.

"Honey," you say. "Can we talk about this Friday?"

"What's to talk about. You want me to fuck your best friend while carry on with some pretty young blonde."

"She's not that much younger than us-" you begin to reason but a sharp look from your wife convinces you to abandon that line of thinking.

You try again.

"That's not what I want, and I'm sorry I made you think that. Matt convinced me that doing this would actually bring us closer, but I should have consulted with you first. I was wrong, and I've already messaged him, telling him to call off my date with Kali."

Her features soften and you can instantly tell that you've gotten through to her.

"Oh sweetie, I really do appreciate that. I can sympathize if you think our relationship or our sex life needs some re-invigoration, but I've never been tempted to stray. I don't need to sleep with another man to know that I love you."

A wave of relief washes over you when you hear those words and you feel much better about the state of your relationship with your wife than you did that morning. Still, she's standing away from you, and her body remains stiff, so you think that she's not ready for physical contact like a comforting hug, so you simply give her a warm smile.

But as her words roll around in your head, you note that she never explicitly said she would cancel her own date. The part about not needing to sleep with other men makes it sound like she will, but in the moments after they leave her lips, you immediately begin to doubt.

You need to hear it directly, so you ask, "I'm really glad to hear you say that, honey, so, will you be cancelling your date with Matt as well?"

She looks you right in the eye, and speaks, quite casually and relaxed.

"No."

You feel cold. You did the right thing to make up for your mistake, you said the right words to make her understand you were sincere, and her response was exactly what you wanted to hear. So you cannot fathom why she won't cancel her own date. Utterly confused you struggle with how to respond.
