These are my friends!

I felt the blood drain from my face as my heart started pounding. I had just changed a fundamental aspect of Jess's personality. We weren't super close, but still, it felt wrong to me.

I was also rock-hard in an instant. It's a good thing I was sitting down because I could suddenly feel my pulse throb in my shaft as it pressed against my leg. With one sentence, I had made Jess into a slightly different version of herself, and I loved it.

Then I remembered that Ron was in the room. He was my best friend, and while I found his girlfriend a little bit annoying sometimes, they seemed happy together and I didn't want to change that. It didn't feel right.

But how was I to fix this? I couldn't ask her to un-chill, could I? Did I tell her to go back to normal, or to forget that I had told her to chill in the first place? Would her forgetting that she'd been asked to chill make her stop chilling? I figured a test was worth a shot.

"Jess, please forget that I asked you to just chill."

She nodded. "Okay."

I held my breath, but nothing changed. She was still slouched, now idly playing with her phone, her chin resting on her chest in a decidedly un-Jess manner. I tried another angle.

"Please go back to how you were before I asked you to just chill."

The change was immediate. She shot up, stretching her back and pushing her chest out, then looked at me with one eyebrow raised. "What are you talkin' about? You never asked me to chill."

Right, she'd have forgotten that part.

She turned to Ron, who seemed entirely unperturbed by his girlfriend's mood swings. "Actually, babe, I change my mind. A movie sounds great! Do you wanna get dinner first?"

Ron pushed himself up from the chair. "Absolutely. How about Giovanni's? I've been hungry for some bolognese all week. Rick, you want to tag along?"

I wasn't opposed to third-wheeling , especially not when Giovanni's was involved. That being said, I had a lot to figure out and that might be best done on my own time.
