Chapter 5 by Sarckle Sarckle

Fight, flight or freeze?

Stand your ground.

You tighten your grip on the bat, preparing yourself for when the wolf comes into striking range. The wolf looks a lot taller this close. You’re basically staring straight up at the towering monster. You pull the bat back, prepared to strike. You swing with all the **** you can muster, your eyes close on instinct. The impact of the bat hitting its mark sends vibrations up your arms. You open your eyes to see if the wolfman is still standing.

Your heart sinks when you see a large paw wrapped around the bat. He caught the bat. You watch his arms flex, and his hand squeezes around the bat, you can hear the wood creaking. Suddenly the bat explodes in a spray of splinters. The top falls to the ground with the thud as you’re left holding a stub of a handle.

All you see is a blur of fur, as the wolf quickly moves. The next thing you know, you’re being held against the wall, his hand around your throat and your feet off the ground. Your feet flail against the wall behind you. “You should’ve just given up,” he growls in your face. You can feel the warmth and wetness of his breath, and the unmistakable stench of dog breath. You wrap your hands around his wrist trying to save yourself. He lets out a loud yelp, and you fall to the ground gasping for air.

You look up at the beast. You notice him holding what appears to be your shirt in his hand. You look down and sure enough you’re topless, you didn’t even feel it rip from your body. Why did he let go? You see a trail of smoke rising from his wrist. Did you do that? You look at your hands and see a piece of flesh melting off the silver band on your left hand.

Is it time to go on the offensive? Or should you take this opportunity to run?

Attack? Or run?
