Chapter 27 by Fantasy Fantasy

What now?

A text message from Emma.

“Can you come to my office? Ms. Owen wants to talk to you.”

That’s what Emma’s message reads.

Go to Emma’s office to see Ms. Owens? Odd.

When you hear Emma telling you to go in, you see both women sitting at Emma’s desk, eating lunch. The literature teacher sees you, her face reddens and she looks away, stealing quick, short glances as you walk up to them.

“Did you want to see me?” You ask.

“Yes, but first,” Ms. Owen looks up at you. “Have you eaten?”

No, you haven’t. You’re invited to sit down and eat with them and you accept. You take your lunch out of your backpack and sit next to Ms. Owens and in front of Emma, who has remained silent and avoiding your gaze since you got it. It makes you uneasy.

Suddenly, Ms. Owen speaks to Emma.

“Still, I didn’t think you’d like them this young, Emma. I was really surprised.” Her face remains neutral, as if she was talking about the weather.

Your body temperature drops as your whole body freezes in place. You glance at Emma and see her fidgeting in her chair, face red and unwilling to look you in the eye. Your head snaps towards Ms. Owens and you see she is now trying to hold a smirk from showing on her face. You look back to Emma, silently asking for an explanation to that comment.

“…She found out.” She tells you.

Your eyes widen at the confirmation. Ms. Owens knows you and Emma are together.

“How…?”

“Oh, please, if you saw her in such high spirits on a Monday morning you’d know she’d gotten lucky over the weekend. I just started asking a few questions and she spilled the beans in no time.” Ms. Owens can’t hold it anymore and starts chuckling while shaking her head. “My God, girl, you can’t hold a secret to save your life. Good thing I was the first to ask.”

“Wait, so…” You begin, but Ms. Owens sees right through you.

“Yes, I won’t tell anyone. Don’t worry.” She assures you with a smile.

“I’m so sorry!” Emma apologizes, hiding her face in her hands. “I was so excited and I wanted to tell someone! I’ve known Mia for a few years now, and I knew she’d be supportive, but I still shouldn’t have said anything!”

It turns out these two have known each other for 4 years. Ms. Owens was Emma’s teacher in university, and when she had to move, Emma told her of Hayes Academy. She applied to be its English teacher and was immediately accepted due to her qualification. It seems they’re very close friends.

“Are you mad?” Emma asks you hesitantly, still fidgeting in her seat.

“Not really. I was worried, but Ms. Owens says she won’t tell anyone, and I believe her.” You answer, and Emma gives you an appreciative look.

“I see now. He may be young, but he’s exactly your type. Honest, diligent, innocent… I can see how you fell for him.” Ms. Owen chuckles again. She seems to be in a good mood.

“Not so innocent anymore…” Emma says, looking at you with a sultry smile and intense bedroom eyes that by themselves start making blood flow to your crotch.

“Wow. Maybe I should leave and give you two some privacy.” The older teacher teases.

“Mia! I just… Just tell him what you called him here for!” Emma immediately changes the subject, embarrassed.

“You’re right, let’s not waste more time.” Ms. Owen nods. “Mr. Walker, you’re not in any clubs, right?”

You nod. “I haven’t joined any and I don’t think I will. The… environment doesn’t seem appropriate.” You say.

“Sadly, I agree.” She sighs heavily. “I don’t think you’d be well received in most of them. Still, I’d like to invite you to participate in the debate club as a guest this Friday.”

Oh?

“The girls are practicing for a local competition, and I’d like you to be one of the judges in their practice. Your essay the other day proves you’re qualified.”

You hesitate for a moment, but then decide that this is yet another opportunity to improve relationships around the school.

“I’d be happy to. I was part of the debate team in high school.” You say proudly.

“Really? So was I!” Emma interjects, excited.

“I’d invite you to be a judge, too, but I told the girls that teachers wouldn’t be judges.” Ms. Owen says. “Then can I count on you on Friday at 4:00?”

“Yes, absolutely.” You gain nothing by saying no to new opportunities after all. On the contrary, with a bit of supernatural help, you have a lot to gain.
