Chapter 14 by Peri2g Peri2g

How eventful is your journey?

You reach your destination without incident

You reach your destination after two weeks journey, Iddis. The carriage trundles down the streets of the iron city, and you spy from the window a variety of peoples and cultures. You begin to realize that the plurality, though not quite the majority of the races you see are not demonic in nature. Elves, dark elves, men, constructs of all shape and size, and even a few dwarves. The push past one another in the narrow streets of the city, perusing the wares of aggressive merchants, and carrying out business more or less like any regular city. What isn't like any other city is the imposing metal walls that divide each region of the city, and the metal gratings containing the scratching fingernails of damned souls in the gutter. The thought makes you shiver, but Nealie speaks up. "Feel no pity for the souls. Only those who's hearts are stripped of all good end up here." You nod slightly, but can't help but wonder if any of them are trapped by misfortune rather than fate.

You had been allowed the luxury of more comfortable riding dresses while you traveled (Nealie hadn't packed any pants.), but she had insisted up on the full formal regalia today. "Appearances" She insisted. "Mean much in the lawful regions of hell." She fluffed the lace of your gold and black gown. "You can avoid many confrontations by merely telegraphing wealth and power." It doesn't change the fact that you feel ridiculous when you step from the carriage, squeezing your billowing gown through the narrow door. You do spy a few noble demons dressed similarly, but even in this wealthy district of the city, the majority of people are more modestly clothed.

You've stopped at an inn, and swiftly Nealie secures the two of you a room, and stables your two servant demons. Then takes up stride by your side as you make your way to the market district to find some more reasonable clothes, and to familiarize yourself with the city. Already you'd heard rumor that one of the mightier demons had a portal to Earth Prime, but in this place where such knowledge could tip the scales of power, such knowledge was difficult to confirm, and even harder to act on.

What do you find in the market district?
