Chapter 5 by distinct100 distinct100

What's next?

The House

You and your sister Jessie have the house to yourselves for the day, which means, inevitably, she's going to bring one of her friends here. You don't mind 'cause they're all pretty cool, but since you're horribly cursed with introversion, you'd always avoid them and stay in your room instead of hanging out with them.

You always hated that "geek that can't talk to girls" cliche you see on TV all the time, but you ended up living up to the stereotype whenever you were around one that was attractive enough. And your sister had some really attractive friends. If you were obligated to, you could easily sit down with them and play it cool for a while. But you'd rather not, since sitting there an not saying anything would make you self-conscious. Sure, maybe maybe they won't mind, but you couldn't help shake the feeling that they're being polite and quietly wondering what's wrong with you.

Then there's also that irrational fear you have of accidentally blurting out inappropriate things.

Now, you're a respectful person. You'd never try to make someone uncomfortable. You always respect people's boundaries and not say anything callous or ignorant. But it's that conscious effort you make in order to be that way that makes it difficult to talk to people. You have this recurring nightmare of talking casually with someone and then out of nowhere, saying the worst thing you could possibly say to that person. Like "You've gotten fat" or "Your taste in music sucks". You don't know why you'd say that, but you constantly think you'd do, even if they were complete lies. It's kinda like when you're at the edge of a large height and get the urge to jump off.

But today, you where feeling different.

The dream felt so vivid that you still had complete memory of it, unlike most dreams you have. In fact, at the end, you told yourself that you wanted to be at home, so you can hang out with your sister's friend. And here you were. You have no memory of getting out of bed, showering, getting dressed, and walking to the middle of the living room.

As stupid as this probably was, this gave you a shot of confidence.

"You know what?" you told yourself. "I'm gonna hang out with them this time. I'll just pretend that dream was real. It already feels like it was, so it'll be easy. That's why I made up the 'Trust Spell' fantasy. To get over that stupid phobia of mine."

You sit yourself on the couch, relax, and put on Netflix while you wait. That pep talk you gave yourself really worked, because you hear your sister's car pull up, and instead of immediately running to your room* like you usually would, you got up, waited at the door, and when one the girls knocked*, you calmly opened the door.

As was mentioned, Jessie has a lot of hot friends. She usually only brings one or two home because she doesn't want to be tempted to throw a party and get in trouble with the folks (compulsion problems run in the family). So you wonder who she brought this time.

*Yes, the door was locked, but she has a key. You wouldn't lock her out of the house just 'cause you pussied out.

It was...
