Chapter 33 by majus majus

What's next?

Time to establish government

You click the buy button and the screen confirms the purchase.

The effect is almost instant. Along the border of the boundary, the small stones buried into the soil appear, effectively creating the borders of the cemetery. While the stones are quite small and you can walk over them without a problem, they are more than visible enough for you to discern the area of the cemetery.

As you close the build window the quest pop-up appears.

Finally! You have enough points to start organising things your small dominion. With that in mind you open up the menu and buy the Military Rank:

Military Rank L.1: Grants you a rank equivalent to '1st Lieutenant' for your government, in your case: [Error: Government Type Not Selected! Recommended: Communism, Democratic Republic, Constitutional Monarchy, Federation, Shogunate, Empire, or Modern Despotism.], allowing you to command up to 200 troops in battle, an increase of 4 fold over your previous limit of 50. 100XP

You decide that the form of the government will be Constitutional Monarchy – it’s the best and the most stable choice. The three pillars of government will be the royalty – the de facto rulers of the country, the nobles who will have permanent seat in the government and the commoners, who will be elected every few years to a seat in the government. You based your choices on British monarchy with more actual power of royalty. The reason was quite simple – the constitutional monarchy is the only form of monarchy that survived the trial of time. Revolutions in France, Russia and World Wars one has swiped all other forms of monarchy out of the face of Earth.

Of course, the drawback of this choice will be that, should both, the commoners and the nobles ally against you, you would lose the ability to rule.

You choose the skill, choose the ‘Constitutional Monarchy’ and buy the skill. A moment after a pop-up appears

Congratulations! With new skill you gained access to ‘Kingdom management’ window!

You quickly fill the policies section:

Policies:
Gender rights: equal
Slavery: banned
Law: basic bill of rights
State religion: -

From the very beginning, you promised your followers that under your leadership slavery wouldn’t be tolerated, so it was only natural to choose slavery to be banned.

You also decided on equality of genders – as per Constitution's spirit. After all, if you were against the slavery, it was only logical that you would be also in favour of emancipation… not to mention that over ninety percent of the population are females – should they decide to rebel, you would be left with no subjects to rule over.

The laws were a tricky part. It took you some thinking but in the end, you decided to create a set of rules based on the bill of rights from united states constitution.

Basic bill of rights:

  1. Each citizen has a right to live and right to defend his or hers life. {significant rise in loyalty, should the ruler execute his/her subjects without a reason the dissatisfaction among the population will rise}
  2. Each citizen has right to have his/her own arms. {each adult member of kingdom is capable of defending the kingdom - the civilians can form free militia units, harder to put down rebellions}
  3. Each citizen has right for personal freedom as well as freedom of speech, freedom of assembly freedom of press and freedom of petition. {rise of loyalty, faster research, faster development of factions inside Kingdom, greater chance of heresies occurring}
  4. Each citizen has right to own his own or her own property {rise of happiness, lower maximal taxes, possible unrest in case of confiscation of citizen’s property}
  5. Each citizen has right for lawful process and to defend his/her name. {in case the ruler arrests subject without valid reason, unrest raises - possible rebellion}
  6. All citizens are equal in light of the law. {decreased loyalty of nobility, rise of loyalty of commoners}

You forfeited the freedom of religion, cause you are the prophet of your religion and decided that the Atarahian religion will be the state religion.

Territory and capital… well, you decided to leave naming them for later.

In the military menu screen, the only change that you decide to implement is to set Filandariel as a commander of the unit. Knowing you can’t do much more in this section, you go to the next section – the most challenging one: the religion menu.

Religion management:

Religion: Atarahian religion
Goddess: Atarah, goddess of Sky and fertility
Head of religion: Prophet Richard Tamarack
Traits:
Monotheist, Sapient Sacrifice, Sacrifice Those Born Defective, Polygamist, Child Care.
Relations with other religions: -
Conversion: -

Relations with other religions, well, you didn’t have any contact with any other religions yet, so this was empty.

The conversion allowed you to decide the way your missionaries converted the infidels. They could do it in an aggressive way, by the sword or do it by preaching and love… there are also options for the Inquisition. You decide that you will leave it for later after you converted the majority of the population.
